Black Friday phone deals in Australia 2024: prices slashed on Apple, Samsung and Google smartphones

Apple's newly released iPhone 16 can be snatched up for just AU$100 from Vodafone, with the telco offering AU$1,299 off when you purchase the phone alongside a AU$79 per month plan spanning a 36-month repayment period. Tallied up, that brings the cost of the phone down to just AU$100 plus plan costs. Other storage and colourway options have received the same discount, as has the iPhone 16 Plus.

The iPhone 16 Pro is the best phone that Apple makes, offering impressive cameras, a gorgeous display, and access to Apple Intelligence features. Vodafone is offering this discount when you purchase the phone on a AU$79 per month plan spanning a 36-month repayment period. In a strange turn of events, the iPhone 15 Pro Max 512GB model (in Blue Titanium) is actually cheaper than the identical 256GB model. This is Apple's best phone of 2023, and although it's a year old now, it's still absolutely worth picking up if you don't care about having the latest and greatest device. We loved the phone in our review, awarding it a Best In Class seal of approval.

Say you want a powerful iPhone but don't want to spend a lot and don't particularly care about having the latest and greatest. One option is picking up a second-hand device such as this iPhone 15 Pro from Phonebot. The retailer has certified the phone as 'Like New', a step down from its 'Open Box' rating, but still guaranteeing that it retained a new phone-like quality. Best of all, it's going for a brilliant price. The phone received a TechRadar Recommends seal of approval in our review.

Though the iPhone 14 Plus is now two generations old, don't be too worried about ongoing software support. The iPhone 14 Plus is expected to be supported until 2029, making it a fairly decent purchase if you want a large phone with a nice screen without spending too much. The 512GB model is currently discounted across all colourways, but not other storage options

The iPhone 13 is expected to be supported until 2028, and although it's now three generations old, it's a welcome option as an entry-point and affordable way to get into the Apple ecosystem. The cameras and display may seem a little dated compared to newer iPhones, and perhaps you'll have Dynamic Island envy, but it's a nice price that's only just above the cost of a new iPhone SE at AU$719.

Only having been revealed back in August, the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL is already discounted, making it exceptionally attractive, particularly if you want the best non-foldable Pixel. The 9 Pro XL comes with the Tensor G4 chip and Google's latest suite of AI features for a phone, along with a gorgeous screen and a brilliant array of cameras. In our Google Pixel 9 Pro XL review, the phone received a Techradar Recommends seal of approval, though we weren't too thrilled about the high price. With a discount however, it's hard to turn away from. Only the Pixel 9 Pro XL is available from JB Hi-FI with the 128GB option and as such is the only one with this low price, however 256GB, 512GB and 1TB options across all colourways are also discounted.

Google's first foldable to come to Australia has been discounted just three months after releasing down under. The phone includes many of the same great specs as the Pixel 9 Pro XL, though with slightly less powerful cameras and a lower fast charging capacity, but among the book-style foldables on offer right now, it's definitely one to consider. We loved the phone in our review.

Google's cheapest Pixel 9 option is a very competent phone that offers brilliant camera performance and the company's suite of AI-powered features (including the very cool Magic Eraser). It's powered by the same Tensor G4 chip that's in the Pro models, and though the screen is slightly lower spec, it's still gorgeous. Also AU$1,049 from the Google Store.

Google's cheap entry-point Pixel smartphone of 2024, the Pixel 8a, has received a discount in the lead-up to Black Friday, making it a particularly attractive smartphone to pick up if you don't want to go over the AU$1,000 price point. The Obsidian, Porcelain, and Bay coloured devices are all discounted from JB Hi-Fi, each offering Google's brilliant array of cameras, the Tensor G3 chip, and 128GB storage capacity. We loved the phone in our review and it earned a Techradar Recommends seal of approval, though the battery life isn't great and it is underpowered compared to Snapdragon-powered alternatives. Also available from Google directly for AU$649.

The Pixel 8 Pro was one of 2023's best smartphones, and although there is a newer generation of Pixel devices now available, the 8 Pro is still a more than capable handset, powered by the Tensor G3 chip and packing some impressive camera quality. This deal from Phonebot is on a used model with a certified 'Like New' quality rating, meaning it'll still feel and look like a new device, though it's a step down from the 'Open Box' rating. For AU$849, it's a very attractive option. Available in both Porcerlain and Obsidian colourways.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE was released October 2024 as a cheap entry-point to the Galaxy S24 range of devices, featuring the brand's Galaxy AI suite of features and a gorgeous sharp display. In Techradar's review of the device, we loved its long battery life, strong performance and gorgeous display, though we thought that the iPhone-like design probably won't be a winner for everyone and that some of the phone's best features are hidden away. With this Optus deal, you'll need to sign up for an eligible plan over a 24-month or 36-month period to activate the monthly saving. Plan costs start at AU$52 per month.

Definitely being one of the best Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 deals we've seen since the phone debuted back in July, Samsung's second Black Friday flash sale brought a huge discount on the online exclusive Black model. It’s an especially attractive deal if you want a large phone that was launched relatively recently, and it features a powerful array of cameras and brilliant processing power. But be quick – this offer ends on November 23.

Samsung's flagship smartphone has received an attractive price drop in the lead-up to Black Friday. For a limited time, you can score a huge 24% off the 256GB model Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra in Titanium Grey. We may yet see the price drop even more in November and there's no guarantee that this deal will stick around for long. All colourways of the 256GB model are discounted, but not the 512GB and 1TB models.

The middle child of the Samsung Galaxy family was quite impressive when it debuted in January 2024, boasting a gorgeous QHD+ display, class-leading battery life and the same suite of AI features as those on the S24 Ultra. We loved it in our review, and with discount, it's an especially attractive phone to pick up.

Samsung's budget handsets are excellent, and the Galaxy A55 is such a nice smartphone that it sits well beside the Galaxy S24 range – and with more than AU$100 slashed from the price of the Awesome Navy model, it might be time to pick this phone up if you're after an affordable phone. It's not the lowest price we've ever seen for the handset (we've previously seen it as low as AU$543) but it's still a nice price to pay for one of 2024's best phones. Though it's Samsung's entry-level Galaxy S smartphone from 2023, it's still a more than capable phone if you're looking for a new handset in 2023. Its perfect size and nice redesign led our compliments of the S23 in our review.

A budget to mid-range smartphone that gives the Google Pixel 8a a run for its money, the Oppo Reno 12 is well worth considering if you want a cheap handset with tonnes of power but don't want to spend too much. It comes with a Dimensity 7300 CPU and is underpinned by 12GB RAM, with the model on sale boasting 256GB storage capacity. We liked the phone in our review of it, though the design could be seen as a little cheap, its AI features are slow, and there's quite a bit of bloatware.
