Black Friday deals are coming up quick, with dozens of smartphones expected to be discounted both in the lead-up to and during the sales bonanza, plus on ‘Cyber Monday’ two days later. But even a month out, we’re starting to see some deals crop up here and there.

Most of the deals will be reserved for older smartphones released in 2023 and earlier. That being said, we are expecting the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 to go on sale (notable considering they only debuted in July), along with the Samsung Galaxy S24 range (which debuted in January and will likely be followed-up in three months) and perhaps the odd iPhone 16 sale.

We’ll be checking the big retailers across November for any standout deals that crop up, so bookmark this page and check back in now and again if you’re on the lookout for a new smartphone at a discounted price.

Hello Moto. The Motorola Razr range represents one of the cheapest ways to pick up a foldable smartphone in Australia, and with 2023's flagship Razr 40 Ultra 5G on sale at almost half the price, it might be time to pick up a smart flip phone. The handset comes with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor and a gorgeous 6.9" pOLED screen, along with a handy 3.6" external display on the back for quickly checking your messages.

Motorola Edge 50 Fusion

Motorola's entry-level smartphone is currently 17% off in the lead-up to Black Friday deals. This phone packs a lot of power for the price it's typically sold at, including a 6.7-inch display, an IP68 resistance rating, 256GB storage capacity and a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 CPU. It's hard to ignore if you want a gorgeous handset without breaking the bank.

Samsung Galaxy S24
Samsung Galaxy S24: was AU$1,387 now AU$1,137 at JB Hi-Fi

Save AU$250

The base model in Samsung's premium family of smartphones, the Galaxy S24 offers the company's latest AI features and a compact design. You'll get seven years of guaranteed software updates with the S24, and all colourways are currently discounted, so you can pick your favourite. This discount applies to the 256GB model, but the 512GB model has also received a price cut.

Samsung Galaxy A55
Samsung Galaxy A55: was AU$699 now AU$585.80 at Amazon AU

Save AU$113.20

Samsung's budget handsets are excellent, and the Galaxy A55 is such a nice smartphone that it sits well beside the Galaxy S24 range – and with more than AU$100 slashed from the price of the Awesome Lilac model, it might be time to pick this phone up if you're after an affordable phone. It's not the lowest price we've ever seen for the handset (we've previously seen it as low as AU$543) but it's still a nice price to pay for one of 2024's best phones. Just keep in mind we may yet see it cheaper. If you want the Awesome Navy model, that's also currently discounted for as low as AU$594.99.

When will the best Black Friday phone deals start in 2024?

Black Friday deals go live from midnight (12am) AEDT on Friday, November 29, 2024. As we approach the day however, we do expect mobile carriers and manufacturers to either start deals early, or at least drip feed us information as to what to expect.

If you’re after a phone deal for Black Friday, you may not want to wait that long. Phone makers and mobile carriers love to offer great deals before the official start of Black Friday, so if you have your eye on something with a price drop, it may be wise to jump on it right away.

Where will the best Black Friday phone deals be?

We'll be rounding up all the best Black Friday phone deals right here on this page, so don't hesitate to bookmark and check in regularly for recommendations. As a quick overview, however, here are the retailers that we're expecting to feature the best phone deals up through Black Friday.

Amazon: hot deals year round set to get even better for Black Friday
eBay Australia: a one stop shop for a lot of hot offers
JB Hi-Fi: gift cards with big-ticket phones, and discounts on others
Optus: trade-in deals and free devices
Telstra: trade-in deals on Australia's largest mobile network provider

What Black Friday phone deals do we expect to see in 2024?

For Black Friday phone deal hunters, there is good news and bad news. The good news is that there are plenty of deals, and almost every phone you can imagine goes on sale somewhere.

But if you're an iPhone fan, the bad news is Apple devices rarely see great discounts, although some mobile carriers do offer deals in return for signing up to a long contract agreement. In fact, the best deals you'll find will likely be part of a contract agreement, but if you were already shopping for service, make the carrier give you a Black Friday phone deal.

Smaller phone makers like Motorola are more likely to offer discounts than Samsung, which just launched a new foldable family, and Apple, which keeps its prices steady. Google has also been known to drop the price on Pixel phones for Black Friday in the past. Third-party retailers will be a good bet too, including The Good Guys and JB Hi-Fi.
