Prime Day 2025 in Australia: what to expect from this year's biggest Amazon sale
Prime Day typically happens in July – here's everything you need to know to prepare for the shopping event
Amazon Prime Day is one of the most popular sales worldwide – or at least in the markets that the online retail giant operates in. While there's typically just been the one Prime Day sale held each July, we've had two in Australia for the last couple of years – we're counting the October Prime Big Deal Days sale here.
• See all of today's Amazon deals
It is, of course, way too early in the year to know when the next Prime Day sale will take place, but we do know that the main event is typically held mid-July. That might be months away, but we'll share all the latest information about it as and when we find out ourselves. That will help you prepare ahead of time, giving you the best chance to pick up the deepest discounts on top products.
In the meantime, though, we expect Amazon to host a couple of other sales before Prime Day 2025 comes knocking. We've had Amazon's Big Smile Sale in March for the last few years and the Mid-Year Sale in June to coincide with Australia's EOFY sales.
While anyone can shop these two smaller Amazon sales (you will need to create a free Amazon account though), Prime Day is exclusively for paying Prime members. Signing up for a subscription – which costs AU$9.99 a month of AU$79 annually – not only allows you to shop till you drop during Prime Day, it also gets you access to a number of perks. You can read all about it in our dedicated What is Amazon Prime guide but, in a nutshell, this monthly or yearly fee gets you access to Prime Video, Prime Music, Prime Reading and Prime Gaming services, as well as free shipping on all eligible products.
But what exactly is Prime Day, when is it in 2025 and what can we expect this year? We've put together this handy guide to answer precisely those questions and we'll keep it updated regularly so you have the latest information until the sale comes round.
Amazon Prime Day 2025: all you need to know
When is Amazon Prime Day 2025?
We aren't going to get any official confirmation for this year's Prime Day dates until about two weeks prior to the actual sale event. However, we can make some educated guesses.
We know for a fact that the first (or main) Prime Day is held mid July each year, and usually starting on a Tuesday. Last year, Prime Day 2024 was July 16-21 in Australia, which could mean that Prime Day 2025 might well kick off on July 15 (which is a Tuesday) and end on Sunday, July 20.
Yes, that's right, we had a six-day Prime Day sale twice last year – both in July and in October – so it's highly likely the same will happen again this year too. That said, Amazon Australia might just shake things up again, so we will have to wait to find out more as the months go on.
Will there be a second Prime Day in October 2025?
Considering we've already had two Prime Big Deal Days sales already, it's highly likely there will be another one in 2025 too. That means we can expect to have the second Prime Day sale in Australia in October again.
Last year, Prime Big Deal Days was between October 8-13 (another 6-day deal bonanza), so expect this year's second Prime Day to be between October 7-12. Again, there's no guarantee that the second Prime Day sale of the year will be a 6-day event, but it's possible that the main Prime Day sale will set the precedent for what to expect in October.
This second sale is a prelude to Amazon's Black Friday sale, and a good opportunity to get your Christmas shopping started if you don't want to wait till end November (this year, Black Friday falls on November 28, 2025).
What is Prime Day in Australia?
Amazon Prime Day began in the US in 2015 as a celebration of the company’s 20th anniversary, with more deals on offer than Black Friday back then. Today, Prime Day is Amazon’s popular mid-year sales event where members of Amazon Prime get exclusive discounts on a wide range of items.
While it began as a one-day sale, 2018 saw the offers last for 36 hours, which then became a 65-hour in 2019. We've had the 65-hour sale since and thought that was 'recording breaking' – oh boy, were we wrong. Last year (2024), for the first time ever, the Prime Day sale was a marathon 6 days, or 144 hours if you want an hourly comparison!
When was Amazon Prime Day 2024?
Amazon Prime Day 2024 kicked off at 00:01am AEST on July 16 and went on until 11:59pm AEST on July 21. This was quite different to what took place in other markets like the US and the UK, where Prime Day was in July was just a 48-hour sale event that started on July 16 but ended much, much earlier than in Australia.
It was the same for the second Prime Day as well – in Australia, Prime Big Deal Days was a 6-day event from October 8 to October 13, 2024, but it was just October 8-9 in other major markets.
Why does Amazon have Prime Day?
Prime Day is presented as a neat ‘thank you’ to Amazon's paying members, but one that involves giving Amazon more money and shifting a lot of stock at the same time.
Prime Day isn’t just about selling Amazon-branded products – several other brands and third-party sellers also save their best deals for Prime Day, completely aware that thousands of extra shoppers will be hitting the online store.
To make the most of Prime Day you’ll need to get yourself an Amazon Prime membership which, in Australia, will set you back AU$9.99 a month or AU$79 a year. While you’re paying for the privilege of free, swift delivery on domestic and international goods, signing up for Prime means you’ll also have free access to Amazon’s streaming services, including Prime Video, Prime Music and Prime Reading. Members also get free access to Prime Gaming and Prime Photos for all their ebook and storage needs. To learn more about this service, head to our guide to what is Amazon Prime in Australia.
How often is Prime Day in a year?
Amazon Prime Day is typically held only once a year, usually in July. However, Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days seems to now be an annual event that matches the July offers, so we could sorta, kinda say that Prime Day is 'unofficially' held twice a year.
How much will Amazon Prime cost in 2025?
An Amazon Prime subscription in Australia costs AU$9.99 per month or AU$79 annually. These prices have been in place since 2023 and includes some useful perks that make the subscription worthwhile, especially if you are a regular Amazon shopper and are keen on the Prime Video library.
With free deliveries on eligible products available as part of the service, even a single item that costs less than AU$20, for example, will arrive at your doorstep either the same day or within a day or two with no additional shipping expenses.
Check out our dedicated page on what is Amazon Prime to find out if it's really worth the money. And click on the buttons below if you'd like to sign up and get a 30-day free trial if you're a new customer.
How do I become an Amazon Prime member?
To be eligible for the Prime-exclusive offers, you need to sign up for a Prime membership for AU$9.99 per month or AU$79 for the whole year.
1. Go to Amazon Prime
2. Select: start your free trial
3. Follow the instructions
4. Start browsing deals
You can start a 30-day Amazon Prime free trial just before Prime Day 2025 and use that to get access to the sale. This option is only available to brand-new members who haven't used the free trial in the past, though.
As well as access to the deals, you also get to try out all the other Amazon Prime benefits while on the free trial, such as free delivery, Prime Video, Prime Gaming and more.
You can get more information from our dedicated 'what is Amazon Prime' page for a full breakdown of the service. You can also use that to decide whether you want to keep your membership going after the sale or cancel Amazon Prime within the one-month trial period to avoid being charged.
Amazon Prime Day 2025: our deal predictions
While we can't say for sure what exactly will be discounted on Amazon during Prime Day, there are some guaranteed offers that you will see, while we can extrapolate for the others from previous sales on Amazon.
Of course, each major Amazon sale – whether Prime Day or Black Friday – is spearheaded by the company's own devices. So we can say for sure you're going to see some pretty steep price drops on the likes of the Fire TV Stick 4K, Echo Dot and Kindle ereaders. In fact, the Echo Pop has been remarkably cheap, going for just AU$29 a pop (ahem). While we've previously seen some good price drops on the 2022 Kindle Scribe (dropping to as low as AU$345 for the 16GB variant), the latest crop of Kindles is definitely not worth buying at full price, but are good value when discounted. We're also hoping Amazon will release the Kindle Colorsoft in Australia well ahead of Prime Day 2025 so we can see a discount on the first ever colour Kindle.
As for other products, this entirely depends on how it fits into each brand's plans for Prime Day 2. We've previously seen deals go live on Amazon 24 hours ahead of the official sale start, so there's a reasonable chance that a few big brands could get involved ahead of time with Amazon's exclusive Prime-member event. Based on that, expect laptops, headphones, smartphones and more popular electronics to feature alongside Amazon's own hardware.
We've seen very deep discounts on headphones and wearables previously, with Garmin smartwatches dropping to half price or cheaper during Prime Day. Headphones from Sennheiser were also going at great prices, with Bose following close behind. Even Bose soundbars were going cheap in 2024 on Amazon. We expect to see more of the same this year too.
Apple discounts have been quite disappointing in 2024, and we're not quite expecting that to change in July this year. But if you are in the market for a new iPad or MacBook, you might well get lucky with the older devices (aka the 2023 and 2024 releases).
If we hear any more news over the coming months, we'll be sure to share it right here and update our predictions with the latest information.
Amazon Prime Day 2025: shopping tips
How to find the best Prime Day deals
1. Grab an Amazon Prime free trial
If you're not a Prime member yet, you can sign up for a 30-day free trial just ahead of the big sale and cancel before it ends if you don't want to continue with the service. This way, you get all the benefits of Amazon Prime without paying for it, albeit for a short period of time.
2. Know what you want to buy – but stay flexible
Having a good understanding of exactly what you want to get out of Amazon Prime Day 2025 will be key to winning this year. That way you'll be able to quickly recognise how good that discount really is, but stay flexible enough to know whether you should opt for another model. For example, if you need a new laptop or camera, take a look at what features each brand offers, perhaps take a look at a few in person by visiting a store. Find a few options you would be happy to pick up, get to know their prices and how cheap they can be so that you can identify a good deal quickly on the day.
However, it's also worth identifying the features that you could sacrifice in order to boost the specs that you really care about – you don't want to miss out on the best Prime Day deals just because the specific model you had in mind isn't discounted.
3. Keep some of that flexibility in your budget
Obviously it's never a good idea to get caught up in the heat of the moment and spend crazy money for the sake of a good deal. However, a little room above your maximum spend will be helpful in securing the best-value deals available. Sometimes the best Prime Day deals aren't on the cheapest items, but on the next level up that offers so much more without boosting the price too much. For example, if you're looking for a laptop you might be tempted by a super low price on a 256GB storage option. However, if the 512GB model is just AU$100 to AU$150 more expensive it's a far better investment.
4. Get in early, but stick around for the full event
When the sale itself comes, we'd recommend heading to Amazon as early as possible. This will give you first eyes on the biggest discounts Amazon is offering on the first day, and because many of the hottest Prime Day deals tend to run out of stock particularly quickly, you may need to move fast.
However, just because you've managed to secure an incredible discount straightaway shouldn't mean your work is done. Amazon releases plenty more high-profile savings throughout the course of the multi-day sale, so it's worth checking back in throughout as well.
5. You're not limited to Amazon – price check and price match
Amazon Prime Day isn't strictly limited to Amazon. We see more and more retailers offering competing discounts these days, and that extra competition often drives prices even lower. It's worth checking other retailers aren't beating your Prime Day deals, but even if they aren't, some like JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys and others will be offering price-matching guarantees and you may snag additional extras as well.
How to find other Amazon deals
Amazon doesn't always do a great job of promoting the best Prime Day deals. Sure, it will shout about many of its own devices and other well-known products that are on sale, but it's often worth looking beyond these highlighted deals for some even better savings. We do a lot of that searching for you and share our favourite offers right here, but here's some more advice on how to find the best Prime Day deals.
Before the sale begins is a good place to start. In the run-up to Prime Day, Amazon usually has a few offers live that are a tease for the big event. These aren't usually some of the biggest products, but can still be tempting bargains. We sometimes see reductions on its own subscription services such as Audible, Music Unlimited and Kindle Unlimited during this window, making it a good time to sign up.
We also strongly encourage you to keep an eye on Amazon Warehouse deals. We often see store-wide discounts of up to 20% across this selection of second-hand, used and open-box products. All items are checked, tested and Amazon-approved before they go back on sale, plus they are covered by the standard returns policy, so you don't have to worry if you run into any issues. Generally, it's an excellent option to bag an even bigger bargain.
Prime Day vs Black Friday – should you wait?
Both Amazon Prime Day and Black Friday generally offer discounts on the same kinds of devices, but there are a few differences between the sales events.
Prime Day deals are largely focused on Amazon itself. Competition among shoppers is also significantly reduced on Prime Day, which means that deals are generally easier to find, easier to price check and won't run out of stock so quickly.
Black Friday, on the other hand, is set across a much larger range of retailers, with prices that tend to be a little cheaper across a wider variety of brands. That does mean putting in a lot more work to make sure you get the best offer possible and keeping a close eye out for limited-time flash sales that make up for most of those lowest recorded prices. With more competition between retailers, though, we do tend to see slightly heavier discounts in November.
Of course, you may also simply want your tech sooner. If so, we wouldn't recommend waiting another month for the chance of a better discount, which may or may not come your way. There's no guarantee that prices will be any different come Black Friday, especially on Amazon products. You may find some older tech for even less, but then you also run the risk of missing out on the best deals due to the increase in competition.
Moreover, keep in mind we've never had a Prime Big Deal Days sale before, so we're as yet uncertain how well the prices will compare to Black Friday. So if you can hold on for a month or so, you could wait to see what happens during November's bumper sale.
Best deals from Prime Day 2024
Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 earbuds: AU$499 AU$294 (AU$205 off)
These 4.5-star rated buds are one of our favourites here at TechRadar and to see such a staggering discount was excellent. They have class-leading audio handling and impeccable sound quality that rivals the best wireless earbuds. With balanced sound, effective ANC and a great battery life, these Sennheiser buds will make any audiophile smile and you should definitely keep an eye out for it this year.
Bose Solo Soundbar Series 2: AU$359 AU$146 (AU$213 off)
Thanks to a hefty 59% discount, this Bose soundbar shot to the top of Amazon's Prime Day October bestseller list. For under AU$150, this was a remarkably affordable soundbar to pick up, albeit an entry-level option. The reviews are admittedly a little mixed (we've unfortunately not tested it ourselves), we'd expect it to offer better performance than most sets around the AU$150 mark.
JBL Spinner BT: AU$649 AU$395 (AU$254 off)
Our esteemed colleagues at What Hi-Fi? said this turntable from JBL (one of its first two to be released at the same time) is a surefire winner in the budget space. It has a great quality built-in phono output making connection to an amplifier as easy as possible (but you can by pass it if you wish) or you can stream via Bluetooth to a wireless speaker. If you'd like a new turntable, keep an eye out for it in 2025 on Amazon.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra (Wi-Fi; 256GB): AU$1,999 AU$1,295 (AU$704 off)
This big 35% discount was also available on the 512GB model, and was the cheapest we'd seen this mighty tablet on Amazon for. Our Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra review gives it 4.5 stars, and especially loves the large 2960 x 1848 display and notes that value for money is surprisingly good compared to the iPad Pro.
Dyson Airwrap: AU$749 AU$499 (AU$250 off)
We saw prices on Dyson's newest haircare tools drop dramatically during Black Friday 2024, but not the Airwrap. However, this offer was a good one during October's Prime Day sale, with a decent AU$250. Whether we see the price fall further this year is anyone's guess, but we can hope.
Oral-B iO 8: AU$689 AU$262.20 (AU$426.80 off)
Electric toothbrushes always get deep discounts on Amazon, but this whopper of a deal was one of the highlights from 2024. With 6 cleaning modes to personalise your oral hygiene, this brush also has a little colour display that will start by greeting you every day, then show you the mode you've chosen, will remind you when to change the brush head and will offer you a smile if you've brushed well. If you see a similar offer, we can't recommend it highly enough.
Dyson V15s Detect Submarine: AU$1,549 AU$988 (AU$561 off)
Dyson's first ever wet-and-dry cordless vacuum has since been cheaper (at other retailers too), but with many of its compatriots getting massive price drops on Amazon during Black Friday, chances are high you could score an astounding deal on a new Dyson vacuum in 2025 on Amazon itself. Keep your eyes peels so you can suck up those savings (pun absolutely intended).
