Nintendo Switch Cyber Monday deals in Australia 2024: bargains on consoles and games still available after the sale
Black Friday and Cyber Monday are over, but you can still grab Nintendo consoles and games with nice discounts
As it always does, the year has gone incredibly fast, meaning that Black Friday (November 29) and Cyber Monday (December 2) are now over. Every year, the sales event is one of the best times to purchase televisions, Apple products, phones and more, and even though the deals period is in the rear-view mirror, savvy shoppers can still grab a discounted Nintendo Switch.
With the Nintendo Switch 2 set to be announced in the first quarter of 2025, the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch OLED and Nintendo Switch Lite consoles were seeing tastier deals than ever before in the lead up to and across Black Friday 2024. Plus, with Yakuza Kiwami, My Sims Cozy Bundle, Mario & Luigi: Brothership and Lego Horizon Adventures all set to release before Christmas this year, there have been few better times to grab Nintendo's hybrid console.
And don't worry, you can still play FC25 and explore Hyrule, too.
Released in 2017, the Nintendo Switch is one of the best handheld consoles ever made, and has sold more than any other console in history other than the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo DS. The handheld market has gotten tougher recently, with the Valve Steam Deck coming Down Under and similar handheld gaming PCs hitting the market, as well as console alternatives like the PlayStation Portal. Still, the Switch's hybrid ability makes it unique even eight years into its generation – and while the Switch 2 is worth waiting for for some, it's imminent arrival means even better Switch discounts after Cyber Monday.

Cyber Monday Nintendo Switch deals: key information
When will Black Friday Nintendo Switch deals be available?
The official date for Black Friday in Australia is on November 29 in 2024, directly following the US Thanksgiving holiday that falls on the fourth Thursday of November. However, just like 2023 and previous Black Fridays' we've experienced, we expect to see some early Black Friday deals creep up at least the week prior, with some being seen as soon as early November.
Black Friday is more than just a one-day sale these days, though. While the absolute best limited-time deals might be restricted to November 29, the majority of deals will continue over Black Friday weekend, ending with Cyber Monday on December 2.
Does the Nintendo Switch get cheaper on Cyber Monday?
We can't promise that there will be incredible deals on the Nintendo Switch come Cyber Monday. However, as one of the best gaming consoles currently available, with the Nintendo Switch 2 on the horizon and taking into account the best Nintendo Switch deals we've seen in 2024 across Amazon Prime Day, EOFY and mid-year sales, we expect there to be some huge discounts on Nintendo consoles and games come Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Does Nintendo do Cyber Monday?
Nintendo first-party games are very rarely discounted, but you're sure to find some hefty discounts on the Nintendo Switch eShop for a variety of third-party games.
However, if you're referring to discounts on the Nintendo Switch consoles, then you'll have to head to a retail store to get the best deals. Luckily, retailers like Amazon and JB Hi-Fi will be running deals on both Nintendo consoles and games during the Black Friday sales window, letting you grab the whole kit and caboodle for much more affordable prices.
Cyber Monday Nintendo Switch deals: our predictions
In 2024 , there’s a whole heap of options when it comes to which Nintendo Switch is for you – especially with the imminent arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2 – so we expect that those looking to grab a deal on Nintendos hybrid console will be eating well come Cyber Monday. of variety when it comes to the Nintendo Switch. The original switch is still a fantastic machine that gives you access to all the best Nintendo Switch games and the ability to play in docked and handheld modes. Then there's the Nintendo Switch OLED, which offers a more premium experience with a larger 7-inch OLED display and more storage – giving you the same docked experience as the original, and much nicer handheld gaming. The third Nintendo Switch console is the Nintendo Switch Lite, which is the cheapest and smallest of the bunch – doing away with the Switch's hybrid compatibility as a solely handheld device.
It doesn't make your choice easy, whether you're looking to grab another Switch, or your first. If you're just looking to grab a console to play Nintendo games with family and friends, plus some single-player gaming on the side, then both the original and OLED models are awesome. The OLED is undoubtedly the "better" machine – but those looking for a more premium experience may just want to wait for the Nintendo Switch 2, picking up a cheap deal on the Lite or original Switch to tide them over until the new year.
No matter what model you opt for, you'll want to pick up games to play – and they (especially first-party Nintendo games) don't come cheap. Luckily, the Black Friday sales weekend and Christmas tend to be the best times to pick up first-party Nintendo games on a discount, with both physical and digital editions often coming down in price just before or during the sale.
As for controllers and accessories, both the Nintendo Switch’s Joy-Cons and Nintendo Switch Pro Controller are very likely to see heavy discounts across and leading up to Black Friday weekend – so its a great time to replace any older Joy-Cons that have become victim to the dreaded Joy-Con drift or take your gaming to the next level with the Pro.
Nintendo Switch Cyber Monday sales FAQs
What date is Black Friday 2024?
Every year, Black Friday lands on the fourth Friday of November – after Thanksgiving in the United States. In 2024, that means Black Friday is November 29, with Cyber Monday falling on December 2.
Is Nintendo making a Nintendo Switch 2?
While the Nintendo Switch 2 hasn't been officially confirmed yet, Nintendo has confirmed that the announcement will be coming within the fiscal year – which means before April 2025. Based on past Nintendo releases, if that is the case, then we expect the Switch 2 (or whatever it's officially called) to hit shelves later in 2025.
While the Switch launched at AU$469.95 and the OLED model costs AU$539.95, we expect the Nintendo Switch 2 to cost more than both older models. And, with the PS5 and Xbox Series X having MSRPs of AU$799.95 and AU$749 respectively – and the recent PS5 Pro coming in at a staggering $AU$1,200 – we wouldn't be surprised to see the Nintendo Switch 2 priced around AU$699.95 or a touch lower.
Will the Nintendo Switch be discounted for Cyber Monday?
Along with every other video game console and a whole bunch of expensive items like TVs, the best phones, tablets, smartwatches and more, the Nintendo Switch and its many incredible games is almost certainly going to see some heavy discounts on Cyber Monday. While we could see them being especially good as Nintendo looks to eke out every last dollar from it before the Nintendo Switch 2 comes, we'll have to wait and see.
Do games have Cyber Monday sales?
Yes! Amazon and JB Hi-Fi will be giving PS5, Xbox and Nintendo Switch games massive discounts on Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend. The Nintendo eShop is also likely to have a number of deals, though we wouldn't expect first-party games like Super Mario Party Jamboree or The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to see a huge price-cut, if any. For those, you'll have to head to Amazon, JB Hi-Fi, EB Games or The Gamesmen.
Is the Nintendo Switch being discontinued?
Nintendo has confirmed that it will support the Nintendo Switch with games at least until the end of 2025, and we think that it will be supported with software and security updates for a lot longer than that. However, given the more-than 142 million sales, it makes sense for Nintendo to quickly switch focus onto their latest console and stop production.
Which Nintendo Switch is better?
While this question would usually be a case of personal preference, there is a very clear answer when it comes to the Nintendo Switch – the Nintendo Switch OLED is far and away the best version of the console. However, that might not make it the best choice for you.
The best Nintendo Switch in 2024 has three choices – the original, the OLED or the Lite. Despite being the best version of the Switch, the OLED is not the best for most people – that still goes to the original, and if you're looking for the cheapest way to play the best Nintendo games or simply only want to play handheld, the Nintendo Switch Lite is for you.
The OLED is awesome. It's the best. But it's also just a better display that most people aren't going to want to pay much more for.
Which game console is best for a 5-year-old?
If you're looking to grab your young child a game console this Christmas, then the Nintendo Switch is easily the best option. Much of Nintendo's library of games leans towards younger audiences, and many of them are easier to learn than that of Xbox or PlayStation. Many Switch games also focus on couch co-op – which is dying a slow death on other consoles – so you can play with them, and its hybrid nature means your child can play at home and take it on the go.
Which is better: PS5, Xbox Series X or Nintendo Switch?
All three of the major consoles in 2024 have an argument for being the best, even if the Nintendo Switch was lacking power compared to the PS4 and Xbox One, let alone this current generation. If you're looking for a PS5 or Xbox Series X, chances are a Nintendo Switch won't get the job done. Only some third-party games are available on it, it's lacking in mature content and Nintendo games like Mario Odyssey aren't for everyone.
Here's a quick breakdown of each console, and why they might be better for you.
PlayStation 5 | If you want to play the best games, then the PS5 is for you, thanks to PlayStation exclusive franchises like God of War, Marvel's Spider-Man, Horizon, The Last of Us, Astro Bot and more. It also sports one of the best controllers on the market that employs game-changing haptic feedback that elevates its first-party games. However, it is lacking when it comes to streaming games, and its loud design will be a big sticking point for many.
Xbox Series X | The most powerful console on the market before the release of the PS5 Pro, and is perhaps the best place to play third-party, non-exclusive games. It also sports its own healthy batch of exclusives like Starfield and Forza. The biggest arrow in Xbox's quiver, though, is also one that makes it hard to recommend – Game Pass.
This cheap subscription lets you download hundreds of games on an Xbox or PC, or stream them to an Android or iOS smartphone. However, Xbox exclusive games seem to be coming to PS5 more often, with Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves having already made the journey, and there are rumours that Forza Horizon 5 could join them. The clean, rectangular design of the Series X will certainly be more attractive to many than the PS5, though.
Nintendo Switch | Able to played both handheld and docked to your TV, the Nintendo Switch instantly possesses something the other two don't. With its three models, it also accounts for those looking for the easiest way to play Nintendo games, those wanting to play them in the best possible way, and those wanting purely handheld gaming with Switch Lite. There's also a heap of awesome games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, Hades, Pokemon Legends: Arceus and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
However, it simply isn't in the same stratosphere as the PS5 or Xbox Series X when it comes to power. If you're one who really cares about frame rates and resolution, then you might want to wait for the Nintendo Switch 2 – though we doubt even that will match the current generation from Sony and Microsoft, even if it does offer 4K resolutions.
Is it worth getting the Nintendo Switch OLED?
The AU$80 difference between the original Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch OLED makes the original the easier to recommend for most people, but there is no doubting that the Nintendo Switch OLED is worth the extra cost – especially if you can grab it on a deal for around AU$450 or less during the Black Friday sales period.
The OLED Switch doesn't offer a 1080p screen or 4K output when docked to your TV – we're hoping the Nintendo Switch 2 will bring Nintendo into the current generation – but games are still considerably prettier in both modes than on the regular Switch. However, if you're really looking for the best Nintendo gaming experience, it might be worth just waiting for the Nintendo Switch 2, or getting a Nintendo Switch Lite to tide you over until then.
How much will the Switch 2 cost?
We expect the Nintendo Switch 2 to launch at a more expensive price point than both the Nintendo Switch back in 2017 and the Nintendo Switch OLED. The Switch launched at AU$469.95, with OLED coming in at AU$539.95. With the PS5 and Xbox Series X selling for AU$799.95 and U$749 respectively – and AU$1,200 PS5 Pro launching in a few weeks – we wouldn't be surprised to see the Switch 2 priced at AU$649.95, if not higher.
