Does Amazon offer free delivery?
Depending on what you're buying, Amazon offers free delivery on selected. If you're buying books, any order worth £10 or more is shipped free. For other items, you'll need to spend £35 or more. If you're an Amazon Prime Member, however, all items come with free one-day delivery, so if place enough orders to outweigh the monthly membership costs, signing up to Prime could help you save on shipping.
What is Amazon Prime?
Amazon Prime is the retailer's paid members service which offers a number of perks you won't get as a standard customer. First and foremost, Prime members get free one-day shipping on all orders, meaning you won't get caught out with any one-off shipping fees. On top of that, Prime Members also have access to Amazon's TV streaming service, Prime Video, letting you watch a wide range of popular shows alongside some Amazon originals. How much is Amazon Prime?
Amazon Prime costs £8.99 per month, or £95 annually, making it cheaper to choose yearly plans. Amazon also offers a 50% discount for students (£4.49 per month or £47.49 annually), helping you save whilst you study. You can also occasionally catch promotions that include additional months of Prime membership free, letting you save on some of those monthly costs if you're a new member signing up.
What is Amazon Prime Day?
Prime Day is Amazon's biggest sale for members of its Prime service and was originally created to rival Black Friday. Historically beginning as a 24-hour event, the sale has grown since the first in 2015, and now often runs for 48-hours. It usually takes place in summer around June or July, with additional dates also appearing in October in recent years. Dates change from year to year, with announcements made way ahead of the sale (and plenty of attention gets given to figuring out when it will be each year).
Prime Day usually offers the biggest discounts on products and the most savings across Amazon's range, with as much as 80% off selected items through event-long offers and very limited-time lightning deals. As such, it's one of the best times of the year to make a saving on your Amazon orders, and well worth waiting for.
Do I need a Prime Membership for Prime Day sales?
Yes, the deals on offer for Prime Day are only up for grabs if you have an Amazon Prime account, so make sure to sign up before the event kicks off. Pro tip: you can still access Prime Day savings if you're on a free trial of Prime, so time your 30-day trial well to make the most of the events' best discounts.
What is Amazon's return policy?
Amazon gives customers 30 days to return most items for a refund if they're not 100% happy (although some items, such as perishables or products where there might be hygiene issues such as opened beauty products, are not eligible for refunds). To initiate a refund, simply log in to your account, navigate to 'Orders', find the relevant order, and choose the 'Initiate A Return' option. Amazon will then provide you a pre-paid returns label to cover the cost of return shipping.

Get a Student Discount: Amazon offers students (and other young people aged 18-22) half price on their Amazon Prime memberships with a 6-month trial, plus exclusive discounts of up to 10% off selected purchases. To redeem these benefits, simply verify your status through the student discount section of Amazon's website.
Shop in Amazon Warehouse: If you don't need brand-new goods, check out Amazon Warehouse. Warehouse is effectively a clearance section - you'll find returned products, as well as any that are being discontinued or won't be restocked, and they're usually sold at a discount of up to 50% off the usual price. Make the most of any deals you see quickly, though - once they're gone, they're gone!
Trade In Old Tech: Got old devices you don't know what to do with? Turn your hardware into a discount with the Amazon trade-in service. You can provide details about your device and its condition through the trade-in page on the Amazon website to get a quote. If you're happy with the price offered, you'll be given a gift card for that amount, plus up to 25% off the purchase of selected Amazon devices such as the Echo Dot, Firestick, or Kindle.
Subscribe and Save: If there are some items you regularly buy, the subscribe and save option will let you make significant savings in the long run. Simply select this option next time you place an order, choose how often you want Amazon to replace this purchase, and the items will be automatically purchased for you on a regular basis. To top it off, you'll also get 15% off the usual price each time, meaning significant savings that stack up.
Look for Lightning deals: Although Lightning Deals are more prominent around Prime Day, that isn't the only time of year you'll see them running. Keeping an eye out for Lightning Deals throughout the year can help you save as much as 50% off selected items, but you'll need to be quick - Lightning Deals tend to only last a few hours!
