Anker Power Port III One Minute Review
With our modern-day independence on so many electronics, it became crucial to get a decent charger to juice up all your electronics without it taking much space or taking a lot of time to charge your devices, with almost every manufacturer opting to not include a charger in the box with new phones, third party chargers have become more of a necessity these days.
Thankfully, we have lots of options to choose from for our charging needs, and when you mention third-party chargers the name Anker comes to mind with its wide range of offerings from accessories to cables and chargers.
Anker has ironed out most of the pain points they had with the previous generations of its chargers, supporting faster charging standards like PPS (Programmable Power Supply) while maintaining the PD (Power Delivery) fast charging standards as well. In other words, this charger will give you optimal charging speeds on different devices whether it’s Samsung, iPhone or Huawei phones in addition to charging PD-enabled laptops via USB-C.
Although the high price tag of AED 249 might deter some users from buying this charger, it's considered a great investment to get especially with the growing number of devices that you need to charge on a daily basis.
What’s good about the Anker Power Port III
Anker brought down the size and weight of the charger thanks to using the second generation of gallium nitride (GaN) in this charger. Usage of this brilliant material, that’s basically considered silicon on steroids, is much better in enhancing power delivery and efficiency through the controller chipset, all while keeping the temperature low as a result of better efficiency.
Anker has used the motto “One charger to rule them all” to describe this charger and surely it’s accurate as I’ve found myself dumping all other chargers since I got this one as it replaced my phone, watch and laptop chargers.
Both the type-C ports can take advantage of the full 65 watts the charger can provide when used individually, but not the same story if you’re using multiple devices simultaneously. In that case, the charger will smartly distribute the wattage between the devices. Anker has also introduced a new intelligent charging controller that switches the wattage from the device that has finished charging to the ones who are still charging.
To test the charging speeds, we’ve tried the charger with the MacBook Pro M1 2021 and we’ve managed to get 60W charging speeds. It’s the same story with Samsung’s phones that got the full super fast charging using the charger. We’ve tried the charger with Oppo and Honor phones as well as iPhone 13 Pro Max and managed to get the full charging speeds on each of the phones we’ve tried. So it’s safe to say that this charger supports different types of phones and devices, you’d be looking to charge.
What’s not so good about the Anker Power Port III
Since it’s an upgrade to the already good charger from the same company, there’s not much to dislike about the Anker Power Port III especially since it supports fast charging on all the devices you can possibly think of.
Anker has also decided to ditch the interchangeable power cords that you could find with the previous iteration of the charger with this version. You’ll have to get a different power cord to go along if you’re travelling to another country, it was a good feature to have but it’s not a deal break to not have it around anymore.
The type-A port doesn't have the best charging speed as it's capped at 22.5W and it doesn’t take advantage of the higher voltage this charger can provide. So it’s better to use a type-C cable to charge your devices that are cable of charging with speeds more than 22.5W.
Anker Power Port III Pricing and availability
The Anker Power Port III is available in the UAE for the price of AED 249 in Jumbo Store. The price is a steep one compared to your average fast chargers, but comparison to average chargers would be unfair as the Anker Power Port III will bring you much better value and versatility while taking much smaller space compared to multiple chargers or even the original chargers that can provide the same 65 watts charging speed.
From our experience, we can confidently say that Anker is a premium brand that offers reliable products with great lifespan. You'd pay extra for the premium products you get with Anker.
That being said, it should be known that there are other options. Anker themselves have the Anker Powerport III two port in 2 versions, a 2 USB type-C version and a single usb type-C and single USB type-A version, priced at AED 169 and AED 149 respectively. With other brands you also have 100W options at similar prices. For example, you can get the Ugreen Nexode 100W GaN charger with 2 ports for AED 249 and with 4 ports for AED 299 or the Promate 100W GaN 4 port charger for just AED 244.
Should you buy the Anker Power Port III?
Buy it if ...
You have a lot of devices to charge
The idea of not having to carry a laptop charger, and phone charger on top of the cables is a great quality-of-life option.
You need fast charging
Whether you’re using Apple devices, Android or other accessories, The Anker Power Port III can charge most of your devices at high speeds thanks to supporting multiple fast charging standards like PPS, and PD.
You need a compact charger
Most of the high-speed chargers will come in much larger sizes, having a charger with three ports and 65 watts in such a small package is such a great feature to have especially if you travel a lot and need to save on space.
Don't buy it if ...
You don’t have lots of electronics to charge
The best advantage of using this kind of charger is that you don’t have to carry around lots of chargers, you’ll be losing one of the most important features if you have only one or two devices to charge every day and you’d be better off using a cheaper single port charger.
You have a device that uses a charging speed of more than 65 watts
A charging speed of 65 Watts is massive for a lot of people, but still, there are some phones that charge with 100 watts charging speeds and more, and if you’re one of the few folks who have these phones with this crazy charging speed, you won’t get the most out of your phone’s charging speed with this charger.
