Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga multiplayer: is it online co-op?

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga multiplayer is a huge part of the game’s appeal. You can pair up with a friend to explore everything the Star Wars franchise has to offer, from the seedy streets of Coruscant, to the dusty vistas of Tattooine.

In previous Lego games, you had to work through the story before circling back around to find every collectible and hidden secret. This is no different in Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, which blends together all nine main movies as well as some of the spin-offs.

With so many secrets to discover and items to collect in the game, it’s a massive endeavor if you plan to get all of the Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga trophies. Doing so with a friend will not only make it an easier task to accomplish but certainly would make for a chaotic - yet memorable - venture for any die-hard Star Wars fan to undertake.

Here’s a look at what you can expect from Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga’s multiplayer mode, including how the online co-op functions works and the limitations you might run into.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, like previous games in the series, does feature local multiplayer. You can enjoy the game with another player via couch co-op.

The game supports split-screen, but if both players are in view you’ll share the same screen. As is the case in previous Lego titles, you can work together to finish objectives, but the addition of another player can cause more chaos than if you were playing the game on your own.

However, there's certainly some bad news for those looking to play with someone, not in their current vicinity.

Disappointingly, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga doesn’t feature online multiplayer. This follows the same pattern as other Lego titles, like Lego Jurassic World.

There's no online multiplayer,  so the title doesn’t support crossplay either. For those hoping to see the feature added later down the line, it’s possible, though not entirely likely. It’s never been added retroactively to any Lego games, so unless there's major demand, don't hold your breath.

Traveller’s Tales experimented with online co-op in Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga, which came out in 2007. The feature seemingly has held little interest for the developer since though, so it would be a big U-turn to see the game become playable online.
