OnePlus 10R, Nord CE 2 Lite officially confirmed to launch on April 28

OnePlus a few days back announced that it will host a launch event in India at the end of the month. While the company has only teased that it will introduce a couple of phones and probably a pair of affordable TWS - there was no official word about the products set to debut in India.

Now, OnePlus has not only confirmed that the two phones slated to launch will be called OnePlus 10R and OnePlus Nord 2 CE Lite.

Anyways, talking about the OnePlus 10R – the phone is expected to be a successor to the OnePlus 9R and OnePlus 9RT. The OnePlus 9RT was launched less than four months back and is already getting a successor.

The OnePlus 10R will probably be the cheapest device in the OnePlus 10 series. The phone will come with OnePlus’ signature “fast and smooth experience” at a more accessible price point.

The company has confirmed that the OnePlus 10R will come in two variants. The first one is expected to ship with a 150W fast charge and might come with a 4,500 mAh battery. According to OnePlus, this 150W charging tech will be able to charge the phone from zero to 100 per cent in just 17 minutes.  The regular variant, on the other hand, will sport an 80W charging tech.

We saw Xiaomi deploy a similar strategy when it introduced the Xiaomi 11i lineup in India. While Xiaomi’s device ships with a 125W charging tech, OnePlus is boasting 150W charging support – oddly, both the brands claim that the phone can be charged in 17 minutes.

Talking about the second device that the company plans to launch – Nord 2 CE Lite – the phone has been confirmed to ship with a 5000 mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging. The company claims that this is an “endurance performer” and says that it will offer “a little more than you expect”- though it hasn’t shared much about this phone yet.

Many firsts for OnePlus…and more to come

While OnePlus has confirmed the key features of the OnePlus 10R, the company is set to launch the same phone in China under a different moniker – OnePlus Ace.

This is the first time that a OnePlus phone might have different names in different regions. Probably the company wants to maintain the brand identity that it has created over the last few years in the international markets.

Moreover, the OnePlus 10R will also be the first phone to come with the new MediaTek Dimensity SoCs. It has been rumoured that the phone will have a Dimensity 8100 SoC under the hood. This SoC has already been launched in China and has been getting a lot of positive reviews.

This will also be the first time that a Realme phone will be rebranded as a OnePlus phone. Given the fact that OnePlus has always targeted the premium audience, it is slightly odd to see OnePlus borrowing devices from the affordable lineup. The 150W charging tech was also seen in Realme GT Neo 3 for the first time.

Additionally, this is the first OnePlus number series phone to ship without an alert slider. The alert slider, along with fast charging and smooth interface has been OnePlus’s USP and only the low-end Nord phones didn’t come with the alert slider.

However, given the fact that the three brands – Oppo, OnePlus and Realme – are working in unison, we will see many more such firsts in the future.
