Oppo Reno 8 looks like a cheap OnePlus 10 Pro replica

Oppo has already started working on the successor of the Oppo Reno 7 series and looking at the launch pattern followed by the company, the phone might debut in a month or so in China.

A known tipster DigitalChatStation has shared the first look of the phone and it looks heavily inspired by the OnePlus 10 Pro that was recently launched.

The leaked image shows that the phone might come with a hole-punch display at the front and a camera setup at the back. The design of the camera island, placement of the lens and the circular LED flash is identical to the OnePlus’s flagship - without the Hasselblad branding, though.

Even the textured black coloured rear panel looks similar to the one that is found on other OnePlus devices.

Though in terms of specifications, the Oppo Reno 8 might be a no match to its premium cousin. The phone is expected to come with a 6.55-inch display with FHD+ resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate.

The phone might sport a 50MP primary camera at the back and according to the reports, this could be a Sony’s IMX766 sensor at work.

Like the previous Reno series phones, the Reno 8 could focus heavily on its AI-powered camera prowess and might come in three different variants – Reno 8, Reno 8 Pro and Reno 8 Pro Plus. The company might introduce all or some variants in the international markets after the lineup is launched in China.

Diminishing lines of differentiation

There is no denying that most OnePlus phones in the past have been rebranded Oppo phones, however, ever since both OnePlus and Oppo have announced the merger, OnePlus devices have lost their uniqueness.

The operating system might have different names but are totally the same under the hood. In terms of sharing features, both the brands are no more subtle. Realme, another off-shoot of Oppo, recently introduced 150W charging tech and the same is reportedly coming to an upcoming OnePlus phone.

Last but not the least, the Alert slider which used to be the marquee feature on OnePlus phones, will soon be seen on an upcoming Realme mid-ranger.

While sharing technology between related brands isn’t odd, however, most brands have retained their uniqueness in the past which gives loyal users a strong reason to stick with the same brand. The way Oppo is handling both its sub-brands, it seems that the Chinese smartphone maker has different ideas though.
