Which new EV will Tata reveal on April 6?
Smart money is on Nexon EV long range
Ever since Tata Motors dropped a cryptic teaser for an upcoming electric vehicle, which will be unveiled on April 6, 2022, there has been considerable speculation in the media as to which vehicle would it be.
As of now, the odds are in favour of the long range version of its bestseller, and the country's top-selling EV, Tata Nexon EV. But there is also a rumour that it could be Tata Altroz EV. For the record, Tata is also working on Tigor EV and Punch EV.
The teaser, put out from the Twitter handle of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited, reads – “Different is Electrifying” and it shows the body panels of the vehicle.

The teaser said the car will be revealed on April 6. Earlier, a video posted on a YouTube channel gave us a sneak peek of an upcoming electric car that was being tested on roads in a camouflaged avatar. The existing Nexon's biggest limitation is its range. The company's claim is that the car’s maximum driving range is 312 km, which is about 210-230 km in real-world conditions. While this range is okay for a city car, it limits users from taking the car on longer trips, since charging infrastructure on highways is still at a nascent stage.
So it makes sense for Tata to come out with a long range Nexon EV, around 400 km with a bigger 40 kWh battery back supporting the range. The bigger battery pack might also give out more power to the electric vehicle.
The interior is said to get a new upholstery and probably a new infotainment system. For the exteriors, the electric SUV may get newly designed projector lamps with LED DRLs and the signature style of Tata's bumper. The car is also expected to come with a new set of 16-inch dual-tone diamond-cut alloy wheels.
Another important aspect that might change is the pricing. The current car is priced close to Rs 14 to 15 lakhs. The newer version may be close to Rs 18 lakh, according to market rumours.
