Xiaomi is set to host a mega launch event in India on April 27. While the company will announce its flagship phone – Xiaomi 12 Pro in this launch event, it will reportedly unveil many other flagship devices as well.

The company has now announced that it will launch the Xiaomi Pad 5 in India during this event. The company took to Twitter to announce the launch date.

While in China the Xiaomi Pad 5 was launched along with the Pro variant, however, the company might only bring the stock variant to India. The tablet is expected to come with a dedicated keyboard accessory and a stylus alongside.

The Xiaomi Pad 5 is a premium tablet, and the Indian variant might come with similar hardware as its Chinese counterpart. The tablet is expected to sport an 11-inch WQXGA display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz sampling rate. This display is expected to support Dolby Vision and HDR10 for an immersive experience.

The Xiaomi Pad 5 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 860 processor coupled with 6GB RAM and up to 256GB of storage. It draws power from an 8720mAh battery that supports 33W fast-charging support.

The Xiaomi Pad 5 rocks a single 13MP snapper on the rear and an 8MP snapper on the front. It carries a boxy look with flat edges, rounded corners and a flat rear panel. The symmetrical bezel around the display offers the users space to hold the tablet and gives the tablet a modern look as well.

The Xiaomi Pad 5 is available at a starting price of CNY 1999 or roughly Rs. 24000 for the base variant while the top-end variant with 6GB and 256GB is priced at CNY 2299 or Rs. 27000. Xiaomi is known for its aggressive pricing and we expect the same for Xiaomi Pad 5 as well.

The year of revival of tablets

To recall, Xiaomi’s only tablet that managed to sneak into the Indian market was the Mi Pad which was launched way back in 2015. After that, the company decided to not update its tablet lineup in India even though it launched a handful of large screened portable Android devices back home in China.

Despite a lot of fans asking the company to bring the tablet to India, Xiaomi could only manage an April fools prank a few days back.

In all fairness, Xiaomi isn’t the only one to be blamed. After all, even Google had shunned the idea of offering software support for tablets. This gave Apple and Samsung the opportunity to capture the market on a platter.

The arrival of foldable phones and the Covid-19 outbreak saw a spike in demand for devices that can be used for content consumption, remote learning as well as work from home. Thus, Android tablets got a new lease of life, and we have brands like Moto, Realme, Oppo and Vivo that have ventured into this new segment, and we can only expect this segment to become competitive once again.

Though, unlike earlier when the market was crowded with cheap and low powered tablets, we can expect the availability of affordable premium tablets as a change.
