Web hosting & website builder reviews
Over the years, we’ve seen smartphones getting smarter and smarter. With all the functionality most of us need in our daily lives right there at our fingertips, we’re increasingly putting more of our personal information and sensitive data in one place.
With that increased security risk comes the need for increased security measures. That’s definitely shown up on smartphones, with fingerprint scanners, iris scanners, and facial recognition appearing over the years. Huawei was one of the first smartphone manufacturers to include a single-touch fingerprint scanner.
That commitment to security continues today, and the company’s top-of-the-line Mate 20 Pro aptly demonstrates this.

Advanced unlocking for the Mate 20 Pro
The Huawei Mate 20 Pro, at first glance, would make you think that it doesn’t have a fingerprint scanner on the front. The bezels were drastically reduced to offer an extra large screen. But, beneath that display, Huawei’s packed in a fingerprint scanner that works by reading your fingerprint right through the screen.
The in-screen fingerprint scanner works much the same as the scanners you’d find on older smartphones. You simply put your finger onto the scanning portion of the screen, it reads your fingerprint, and the phone unlocks. When the Mate 20 Pro detects your finger near the screen, it will light up the portion of the display where the scanner is housed. Once the screen is unlocked, the prompt goes away.
But, Huawei didn’t stop there for the Mate 20 Pro. The phone also includes an advanced 3D Face Unlock so you can quickly unlock your device by letting it see you.
The 3D Face Unlock uses the Mate 20 Pro’s 3D Depth Sensing Camera System to recognize your face and unlock within 0.6 seconds, and it has an error rate below one in a million.

And, if you share your phone occasionally but don’t want other users having full access to everything on the Mate 20 Pro, you can lock individual apps with App Lock so they’ll only open when your face is recognized.
Security for your data and credentials
Advanced unlocking methods are great when you have your device, but if it’s lost or stolen, it helps to know your sensitive information is still secure. Huawei’s made sure that’s the case, too.
It’s super handy to have your smartphone remember login credentials for you, especially given how tough they can be to type in on touchscreen keyboards. But, if you’re worried about your information being all in one place and that place not being secure, then you can take comfort in the Password Vault.
The data is stored directly on the device. In other words, it’s all local, and not on the Cloud. The passwords are also stored on a secure part of the phone, not just sitting around unencrypted. So, even if you lose your phone, your credentials won’t be accessed.
The Password Vault can help ensure no one else gets your data, but what about you getting your data back?
Huawei has a solution for that, too. You can export your phone’s data via a USB cable or wireless connection. This way, if your phone gets lost, you should still have a backup available.
You can also keep files saved on a Nano Memory Card expansion slot that supports up to 256 GB in the Mate 20 Pro. In this case, if an accident damages the phone, you may still be able to recover your data by removing the card.
Altogether, Huawei’s Mate 20 Pro has your security in mind. And, with plenty of different options for keeping the phone secure, you can pick the methods that best suits your needs.
