OPPO Reno7 Series with World’s First IMX709 Sensor and Industry-First Aircraft-Grade LDI Design Sets Tone High for 2022
It’s the dawn of a new year. Smartphone enthusiasts around the world are getting ready to embrace a new generation of innovation in consumer technology
Keeping up with smartphone launches from other brands at global events like CES 2022, OPPO, a global leading smart device brand, is starting the year strongly with one of its most anticipated premium flagship series: OPPO Reno7 Series.
The flagbearer of the series, the OPPO Reno7 Pro 5G builds on OPPO’s battle-tested formula and is packed with cutting-edge advancements in its Portrait Camera System, thanks to the world’s first most-sensitive OPPO exclusive IMX709 camera sensor that it co-developed with Sony. When it comes to design, OPPO is now using an all-new one-of-its-kind LDI design technology to give the device’s back a texture that is fingerprint-resistant. Here’s what else we know so far.
OPPO Reno7 Pro 5G Camera Portrait System: See with New Sight
Over the last few years, OPPO has not only established itself as an industry leader in mobile camera technology but also extended its lead by a wide margin. With proprietary AI Highlight Video technology, industry-first Bokeh Flare Portrait Video, and other innovative imaging patents under its belt, it’s no surprise that OPPO has cracked the tricky balance of software and hardware optimization. No wonder, the Reno7 Pro 5G is being touted as the Portrait Video Expert with its flagship Portrait Camera System.
This latest pillar of OPPO’s imaging prowess is showcased by its 32MP Front Camera with Sony IMX709 RGBW Sensor and a 50MP Main Rear Camera with Sony IMX766 Sensor, an 8MP Ultra Wide-Angle Camera, and as 2MP Macro Camera. With an upgraded portrait photo and video experience, the Reno7 Pro 5G is all set to deliver one of the best flagship-grade camera experiences in its segment.
The standout element is the front camera of OPPO Reno7 Pro 5G, which features the world’s first and most sensitive IMX709 Sensor. The sensor’s use of DOL-HDR and Smart Wide-Angle switch optimizes front camera performance. The IMX709 is also the world’s most sensitive front camera sensor with an RGBW fusion unit.
In an upgrade to traditional RGGB (red, green, green, blue) sensors, OPPO R&D has been working on developing the new-gen RGBW (red, green, blue, white) sensor for quite some time. After three years of refining its RGBW technology, OPPO achieved a revolutionary breakthrough that resulted in 87 patents for this technology. The addition of white allowed the sensor to be extremely light-sensitive making it revolutionary in the way it captures clear selfies. This makes for never-seen-before lowlight capabilities of the front camera with 60% more sensitivity to light and 35% higher noise reduction from previous generation device. To top it off, OPPO’s 22nm process is also said to have reduced power consumption and increased color accuracy.
For its rear shooters, OPPO uses Sony’s 50MP IMX766 sensor, which has a large photosensitive area of about 1/1.56-inches which can be further increased thanks to OPPO’s Quadra Binning algorithm that allows it to capture maximum light in low-light conditions. This makes the sensor extremely sensitive to capturing photos and videos in dark environments. With precise and quicker 3-dimensional focusing coupled with Omni-Directional Phase Detection Auto Focus, the device is reported to deliver stunningly sharp images and videos in the dark.
The OPPO Reno7 Pro 5G is a true testament to OPPO’s ingenuity, comprehensive breakthroughs, and innovations from sensors to camera modules and algorithms.
OPPO Reno7 Pro 5G Glow and LDI Design Technology: Crafted to 7th Heaven
Evident since the early leak is OPPO Reno7 Pro 5G’s dazzling glass-sandwich design. Despite its aluminium frame and 2.5D glasses on both the front and the back, the Reno7 Pro 5G is just 7.45mm thin and weighs just180g, making it the slimmest Reno Series flagship ever.
OPPO has generated a lot of buzz around their use of Industry-First aircraft-grade LDI Technology. Through this technology, OPPO engineers have been able to use lasers to etch fine textures on the photoresist-coated glass back covers at a precision of 20 microns. With up to 1.2 million such micro etchings the back panel creates the illusion of thousands of stars with long tails of light shining bright. The etchings not only give the device its exquisite appeal but also render the device resistant to dust and fingerprints with a grippy matte finish. This also makes the Reno7 Pro 5G the first smartphone to deploy this technology.

The camera module also packs quite the design punch as it is divided into two parts. The upper half is made of metal while the lower half is decorated with ceramic and houses the wide-angle lens. Alongside OPPO’s proprietary Glow Technology, this device also features the industry's first Orbit Breathing LEDs that light up the camera module on the rear whenever the phone receives a call or any notification.
Available in two colour options of “Startrails Blue” and “Starlight Black” the Reno7 Pro 5G is a design engineering marvel. It hosts pathbreaking and industry-first technologies to make sure that users enjoy an exclusive design experience. Looks like OPPO has cut no corners when it comes to the design of this smartphone making it a visual treat from front to back.
