U.S. Cellular customers seeking a less expensive 4G LTE handset finally got some relief this week with the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy Axiom, available now for $79.99 with a two-year agreement.

It was only two weeks ago we reported that the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini was rumored to be heading onto U.S. Cellular's LTE airwaves, and that day has finally arrived.

Rebranded as the Samsung Galaxy Axiom, this Android 4.0-powered handset hit U.S. Cellular on Wednesday complete with a 4.0-inch WVGA display at 800 x 480 pixels and 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor.

While it may not be the most powerful handset on the block, the Axiom does aim to please with a 5.0MP rear camera as well as a 1.3MP front-facing camera for video chat.

Cheaper than expected

After being leaked on Twitter two weeks ago, rumors began to fly that the Samsung Galaxy Axiom would arrive in December for $100 on contract.

The handset actually swooped into stores earlier than expected, and even shaved a few bucks off the rumored "under $100" price tag, hitting just below $80.

Samsung is attempting to make up for the Galaxy Axiom's lack of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean by serving up the company's own TouchWiz as well as the ability to share content via S Beam or executive voice commands using S Voice using U.S. Cellular's 4G LTE network.
