You might not have to sign a lengthy contract in order to buy that Samsung Galaxy S5 after all, as the new smartphone is coming to a pair of prepaid carriers in the US.
Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile have announced through Facebook that Samsung's next flagship smartphone is coming to their Sprint-backed networks.
Both no-contract carriers are expected to start selling the phone in the second quarter, which translates to anywhere from April to June of this year.
That means the prepaid Galaxy S5 shouldn't be too far behind the April-bound version that locks customers into a two-year contract with AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile. The phone is also headed to MetroPCS and US Cellular.
Prepaid Samsung Galaxy S5 plans
While Boost Mobile and Sprint require customers to pay upfront for their phones, the plans offer unlimited talk, texting and data for a reduced price.
On Boost the Galaxy S5 plan fits into the $55 a month for smartphones and qualifies for its "shrinking payments" feature that reduces the monthly fee by $5 every six months until it sits at $40 a month.
Virgin plans can be even cheaper starting at $35 a month for the Galaxy S5, but it limits talk time to 300 minutes. Upgrading to unlimited minutes requires Virgin's $55/month plan.
Since both prepaid carriers use Sprint's 4G LTE network, the service will be as good as Sprint is in your neck of the woods.
