Realme was rumoured to introduce a phone in collaboration with a smartphone game. Now the company has indeed added another variant to the Realme 9 lineup by announcing the Realme 9 Pro Plus Freefire Limited Edition in Thailand.

The phone comes with a unique design inspired by the game and Free-Fire themed retail packaging which includes specially designed limited-edition stickers.

Other than that, the phone’s specifications remain unchanged and you get a Realme 9 Pro Plus 5G with the redesigned colourful rear panel. The phone has been designed to keep the fans of the game in mind and helps them get some exclusive merchandise to own.

Besides these cosmetic changes, the phone comes equipped with a 6.4-inch AMOLED panel with FHD+ screen resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, you have a MediaTek Dimensity 920 SoC coupled with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage.

In terms of optics, the phones’ triple rear camera module remains unchanged and comprises a 50 MP primary sensor along with an 8 MP ultra-wide camera and a 2 MP camera for macro photography. On the front, it has a 16MP selfie camera.

Powering the phone is a 4,500mAh battery that supports 60W fast-charging support. The Realme 9 Pro Plus Freefire Limited Edition phone runs on Realme UI 3.0 atop the latest Android 12 OS out of the box.

The phone is available in a single memory and storage variant of 8GB and 256GB combination which is priced at 12,499 Baht. There is no clarity on the international release of this phone yet.

A fancy paint job, nothing else

Various brands have introduced phones in collaboration with different games. While this helps the gaming enthusiasts to feel connected with the game, however, this phone doesn’t offer anything beyond cosmetic changes.

Though we’ve seen phones that come with dedicated buttons for playing certain games that would’ve resulted in making changes at the hardware level and might have increased the cost substantially.

Since the phone is priced almost the same as the regular version, at least bundling hardware that helps users play games easily would help improve the gaming experience.
