Tata Motors has inked a partnership with Lithium Urban Technologies, an EV-based urban transportation service provider, and will deploy 5000 XPRES-T electric sedans, across the country, for employee transportation. Tata Motors will commence deliveries in phases and will complete the deployment by next year.

Tata Motors launched the ‘XPRES’ brand in July 2021 exclusively for fleet customers and XPRES-T’ EV is the first vehicle under this brand.

Bengaluru-based Lithium Urban Technologies, which claims to be India’s first company with an all-electric fleet, has been using Tata Motors’ EVs since 2019. Its current fleet strength is 400 electric vehicles.

XPRES-T EV is a variant of the Tigor EV

Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility said, "The XPRES-T EV is targeted at mobility services, corporate and government fleet customers. This memorandum of understanding is a big leap towards faster adoption of EVs in the shared mobility space."

"Our relationship with Tata Motors dates back to 2019 when we placed the first order for 500 vehicles. We are delighted that Tata Motors has brought to market a portfolio of vehicles that cater to the entire application spectrum of corporate and business travel needs. The order of 5000 vehicles is indeed a momentous occasion for Lithium, Tata Motors, and the entire EV ecosystem," Sanjay Krishnan, the Founder, and CEO of Lithium Urban Technologies, said.

The XPRES-T EV, meant for commercial usage, is a variant of the Tigor EV, the country top-selling EV.  It comes in two ranges. The 213 km-range option has a high density 21.5 kWh battery pack, and the 165-km one packs in a 16.5 kWh battery. The batteries can be charged 0 to 80% in 90 minutes and 110 minutes respectively, using fast charging or can also be normally charged from any 15 A plug point.

Some of the standard features available with the XPRES-T electric sedan include dual airbags, single-speed automatic transmission, and ABS with EBD. The interior of the Tata XPRES-T also gets a premium black interior, automatic climate control, and an electric blue accent.

Tata Motors leads the 4-wheeler EV market with nearly 87% share in 2022 and has over 24,000 Tata EVs on the road in both the personal and fleet segments.

Meanwhile, Tata Motors, which recently delivered 712 EVs (564 Nexon EVs and 148 Tigor EVs) to individual customers in Maharashtra and Goa on a single day, continued its good work elsewhere. Last week, it delivered 101 EVs (70 Nexon EVs and 31 Tigor EVs) in a handover ceremony for customers in Chennai. This marks the highest electric vehicles delivered ever in a single day in Tamil Nadu.
