Even as Tesla is hemming and hawing over its entry into India, its rival, Triton EV has signed an MoU with the Gujarat government for setting up an EV truck manufacturing plant with a minimum investment commitment of Rs 10,800 crore over a span of 5 years.

The Triton EV truck manufacturing facility in Gujarat will be a state-of-the-art example of a ‘Make in India’ product. The factory will be spread across 645 acres of land and will be manufacturing over 98% of the entire Triton EV semi truck from the facility itself, curbing the import dependency. The EV truck manufacturing facility is, in the fullness of time, expected to grow into an EV ecosystem hub spread over 2000 acres of land.

"This is a very important milestone for us as well as for the Indian EV manufacturing space. We are extremely excited to sign this MoU with the Gujarat government as we are all set to build an integrated manufacturing ecosystem for EVs which will be known as the world’s finest EV manufacturing hub. This eventually will also be the world’s leading and Asia’s biggest hub in its own category," Himanshu B Patel, Founder & MD of Triton EV said.

The EV manufacturing hub in Gujarat is expected to generate employment for over 10 thousand people in the next 5 years.

Also, Triton Electric has already tied up with Telangana government for establishing a manufacturing unit for electric buses at the National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ), Zaheerabad. The company has committed itself an investment of Rs 2,100 crore in Telangana.

Triton manufactures electric semi-trucks, SUVs, electric sedans, defense EVs and e-rickshaws in the US.
