Vivo X80 series confirmed to launch in China next week
Might feature Dimensity 9000 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC
After Vivo’s recent launch this month of the Vivo X Fold, Vivo X Note and Vivo Pad, the company has now revealed that the Vivo X80 series will be unveiled during an event on April 25. The company is expected to launch two devices under the Vivo X80 lineup - the X80 and X80 Pro.
Fonearena’s latest report confirms previous rumours that the smartphone would launch in China at the end of this month. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer posted the launch details on Weibo but there are no other details that hint at the specifications of the device. The company may launch as many as three devices during the event - the X80, X80 Pro and the Vivo S15e.
While the video does not provide exact details about the specifications, the company has hinted that the smartphone will come with a quad-camera setup just like the X70 Pro Plus. It also looks like the X80 Pro will also feature a 4nm chipset coupled with the company’s V1+ chipset similar to the dual chipset arrangement we saw with the recent Vivo X Note. There are no references to the Vivo X80 Pro Plus as yet in the invite.
The X-series of smartphones will continue to feature Car Zeiss lenses but will come with new sensors in the latest generation.
The Vivo X80 may feature a 6.78-inch 120Hz AMOLED display with a 4,500 mAh battery pack. It is also rumoured that the smartphone could support the company’s 80W fast charging technology however we would have to wait until launch day for confirmation. It is also expected to sport a triple-camera setup at the back with a primary 50-megapixel camera sensor from Sony, along with a 48-megapixel sensor for ultrawide photography and a 12-megapixel sensor for telephoto shots.
Since the promotional video features a device with a quad-camera setup, we can assume that it is the Vivo X80 Pro or Pro Plus variant. But these do confirm that the Pro variants could feature a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 48-megapixel secondary camera for ultrawide shots, a 12-megapixel sensor for portrait shots and an 8-megapixel camera equipped with a periscope lens. It may also feature a 6.78-inch LTPO E5 AMOLED display.
All eyes on Dimensity 9000
The new generation of X-series devices is expected to come with MediaTek’s flagship 4nm Dimensity 9000 SoC, which is reportedly performing better than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. MediaTek also launched the Dimensity 8000 and Dimensity 8100 chipset at MWC 2022. The company had stated that the latter is a chipset that is focused more on power efficiency while still providing flagship performance.
