The best streaming service isn't a one-size-fits-all type of choice anymore. There are hundreds of niche services to choose from nowadays, which means you can find a streamer that's dedicated to showcasing a very specific type of content, from arthouse films and documentaries to horror and sports, and more – and not all are subscription-based either, with the rise of free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST).

In this guide, instead of recommending the single best streaming service, we've focused on the six biggest streaming services by global subscription numbers – Disney+ and Hulu, which we're recommending as a bundled subscription, Apple TV+, Max, Netflix, Paramount+ and Prime Video – to help you choose which one to sign up to this month. Why this month? Because each offers a very mixed library of movies and shows that changes from month-to-month.

Each streamer is constantly adding and removing content as well as announcing new subscription changes, which can range from more ads and price hikes to password crackdowns and UI updates, so we've opted to evaluate each service's offerings on a monthly basis to help you decide whether it's worth keeping your subscription or canceling it for another. We've also included a small list of alternative streaming services to choose from to offer more variety outside of the larger streamers.

You're a movie buff: Prime Video has a good track record of adding over 100 new titles every month to its service in the US and February is no different, with a long list of licensed films from different studios being added. For TV show lovers, we'd suggest Hulu or Netflix.

You want to catch the latest Amazon Original series: Two of Prime Video's biggest shows (Reacher and Invincible) are returning in February that you won't want to miss – indeed, Senior Entertainment Reporter Tom Power says the series packs a real punch in his Invincible season 3 review.

You need variety: Prime Video's catalog is already big to begin with, but it's always expanding with new releases, licensed movies and Amazon Original shows. If your streaming preferences are more specialized, we recommend smaller services like Apple TV + or Paramount+.

Reasons to switch this month

You want some sci-fi action: While Prime Video canceled the hit sci-fi series Outer Range, it seems there's a better alternative in Netflix’s dark superhero series Supacell that has a flawless 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

You watch movies in more than one sitting: Prime Video has several complex licensing deals with studios, which means that many films you see on the platform are sometimes only available for a limited time before being removed. For a more consistent library, we suggest Apple TV+ or Disney+.

You don't like having to hunt for content: Although Prime Video has a stellar library, it can sometimes be confusing to find which movies and shows are included in your subscription. If you want a more straightforward catalog, then Apple TV+, Disney+ or Netflix is the way to go.

What's new this month?

It's another bumper list of new movies and shows looking at everything new on Prime Video in February, offering plenty of variety in the way of movies to stream with the likes of Groundhog Day, Scarface and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert being added alongside more than 90 other titles. If you're looking for recommendations, TechRadar's entertainment writer Grace Morris has picked out three more movies with over 95% on Rotten Tomatoes that you won't want to miss. As for TV buffs the highly-anticipated return of Amazon Originals Reacher season 3 and Invincible season 3 are bound to be big draws this month for fans that want to find out what's next for these series.

Is Prime Video worth subscribing to?

Despite Prime Video introducing ads at the start of 2024 unless you pay an extra $2.99 a month to get rid of them, it still remains as one of the most popular streaming services due to its sheer range of content. While the skippable ads may be off-putting, it still offers a lot of value, especially considering its free with an Amazon Prime membership. Its not just quantity over quality either, as the best Prime Video movies and best Prime Video shows allow you to get a lot for your money. Prime Video also has more titles available than Netflix and Disney+ (although Hulu does reportedly have a larger library of TV shows in the US).

You're a fan of Netflix Originals: February is a big month for Netflix, as one of its biggest series – Cobra Kai – is returning along with plenty of brand new TV originals: Apple Cider Vinegar, Zero Day and Running Point just to name a few.

You missed two of TV’s biggest shows: The cult classic mystery show Lost that had everyone on tenterhooks in 2004 is available, along with all nine seasons of Suits, letting you binge watch the full series, for subscribers in the US.

Your love wrestling: No matter whether you're a long-time fan or a newcomer to the sport, Netflix is the place to stream WWE Raw every Monday night to see all the matches, including Liv Morgan vs Rhea Ripley, Reigns vs Solo Sikoa and CM Punk vs Seth Rollins.

Reasons to switch this month

You prefer to watch movies: Netflix has a slim lineup of new film additions in February, so if you'd prefer to watch more feature films, then we'd recommend signing up to Prime Video or Paramount+ instead.

You budget from month-to-month: Netflix surprised subscribers with a shock price hike at the start of January 2025, raising the prices for all three of its plans in the US, Canada, Portugal and Argentina, and while we don’t expect another increase to be announced any time soon, we also wouldn’t put it past Netflix.

You want to binge Brooklyn Nine-Nine: While Netflix is getting seasons 5 and 6 of the procedural series in February, it's also losing the first and second seasons, which means you won't be able to watch all episodes of the show.

What's new this month?

Compared to everything new on Netflix in January, this month has a lot few new additions to browse. It seems the streamer is doubling down on reality TV content, in particular, with the premiere of Love Is Blind season 8 and Celebrity Bear Hunt. But there's also plenty of new original series debuting as part of February's schedule on Netflix. Out of this month's lineup, TechRadar Staff Writer Rowan Davies is most excited for these three new Netflix shows. A new month also means that some titles will be removed, but thankfully there are only 30 movies and two shows leaving Netflix in February.

Is Netflix worth subscribing to?

If you’re looking to catch new hit Netflix shows like Bridgerton, Cobra Kai, Emily in Paris and The Umbrella Academy, then there's only one service where you'll find these titles. As arguably the most well-know streaming service with one of the biggest content libraries around, Netflix is often a staple in many households. But it can draw the ire of subscribers with its account changes and surprise price hikes. Not to mention its habit of canceling shows at the drop of a hat – in 2024, there were nine canceled Netflix shows that we found were still worth watching. If the cost of Netflix is not something you can justify this month, then it might be worth holding out for a potential free ad-supported Netflix but who knows when that will arrive.

You're a Trekkie: Paramount+ is home to all the major Star Trek movies and TV shows, including the studio's first-ever made Star Trek TV movie Star Trek: Section 31, a spin-off that one of its stars revealed had a lot left out of it due to going through many iterations.

You want to catch new Paramount Originals: February is a great month to be signed up to Paramount+, because you'll be able to see the return of hit shows like Yellowjackets season 3, 1923 season 2 and The Equalizer season 5.

You're a cinephile: Some of the most critically-acclaimed films are being added to Paramount+'s library in February, such as Cinema Paradiso, Roman Holiday and Attack the Block. TechRadar's Senior Entertainment Writer Lucy Buglass recommends to start with these five with over 80% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Reasons to switch this month

You're prefer a larger content library: Out of all the biggest paid-for streaming services, Paramount Plus is among the smallest because of its slimmer catalog of movies and shows. For more options, try Prime Video or Netflix.

You don't like reality TV: The likes of Bar Rescue and Survivor are returning with brand new seasons throughout February, and there's plenty others to peruse including RuPaul's Drag Race and Big Brother. If reality TV isn't your thing, we suggest looking at Prime Video or Netflix for more variety.

You don't like westerns: As the home of Taylor Sheridan western dramas (except forYellowstone, which is on Peacock), Paramount+ has all the prequels, sequels and spin-offs from the American filmmaker, including this month's new addition: 1923 season 2, which will tell Yellowstone's chilling origin story.

What's new this month?

Another batch of 100-plus titles is part of everything new on Paramount+ in February 2025, which is the second month in a row that the streamer has added such a bumper list to its catalog. Such a hefty list of new additions isn't something we normally see from Paramount+, so it's a welcome change, making it a great service to be signed up to this month to access new movies. It's also a big month for Paramount+ Originals as new seasons of two of its biggest shows – Yellowjackets and 1923 – are debuting, giving fans plenty of new episodes to stream.

Is Paramount+ worth subscribing to?

Paramount+ doesn't switch up its library as often as rivals, but it has a growing list of new movies and shows that it's adding each month. Outside of its expanding catalog, there's also been a lot of change at the service that has impacted subscribers, including rolling out a price hike in August and September 2024. There's also been change at the company level with Paramount agreeing to merge with long-time partner Skydance last year. As a result, we expect the streamer is about to embark on a new chapter that will likely mean more changes to its streaming service.

You’re a Pixar devotee: As the home of the animation studio's content, Disney+ is the place to be in February 2025, because it's where you'll be able to stream the first-ever Pixar TV series Win or Lose.

You can’t wait to watch Marvel's new Spider-Man animation: New episodes of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, which senior entertainment reporter Tom Power's review calls a "spectacularly fun ride", are releasing throughout the month.

You love period dramas: Hulu already has great period dramas like the hit series Shōgun, and it's expanding its slate in the genre with the addition of the new gritty show A Thousand Blows, which debuts on February 21.

Reasons to switch this month

You're not fussed about new dramas: Lucy Buglass, TechRadar's Senior Entertainment Writer, said that Paradise looks like a great TV show, but if you'd prefer something more light-hearted, why not head over to Paramount+ or Max for some reality TV.

You’re in the mood for iconic movies: Despite 60 new titles being added to Hulu on February 1 alone, the number of new releases has been a lot smaller compared to 2024. For a larger movie library, we recommend signing up to Prime Video.

You get FOMO: February looks to be a busier month on rival streamers like Prime Video and Max with plenty of new titles and returning series arriving, even smaller services like Apple TV+ have big shows drawing in subscribers.

What's new this month?

Looking at everything new on Hulu in February, it's a smaller affair compared to previous months. The streamer more than makes up for this, though, with the high-quality range of movies being added – check out these five with over 90% on Rotten Tomatoes for an idea of what's on offer. For international subscribers, while some Hulu titles will be added as part of everything new on Disney+ in February including the upcoming series A Thousand Blows and Win or Lose, a lot of the licensed movies that US subscribers see in Hulu's monthly lineup won't be available, making its new additions schedule a bit on the smaller side. At least, there are only 22 titles being removed from Hulu in February.

Is Disney+ and Hulu worth subscribing to?

Together, Disney+ and Hulu are a great way for customers to watch every Disney live-action movie remake alongside other modern and old classics from Disney as well as every Pixar movie ranked best to worst. It's the streaming service duo that lets you watch the Star Wars movies in order and every Marvel Phase 4 movie and show, with the rest of Marvel's library, as well as Hulu Originals like The Handmaid’s Tale and Only Murders in the Building. This way, you get the benefits of both streaming services, which includes different genres, channels and titles, to offer more variety than simply signing up for one.

You love sci-fi: Apple TV+ has become a sci-fi utopia with its epic lineup of critically acclaimed shows such as Silo, Foundation and For All Mankind. If you haven't already read our Severance season 2 review, then hop to it because February is the month to be signed up to Apple TV+ to see it peak.

You want a thrill: It's a busy month for Apple TV Originals, with new episodes of Severance, Mythic Quest, Prime Target and Love You To Death dropping throughout February. You also won't want to miss the new movie The Gorge when it arrives.

You love book adaptations: Apple TV+ is home to many highly-rated book-to-screen adaptations that have scored over 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, including Drops of God, Pachinko, and Lessons in Chemistry.

Reasons to switch this month

You’re a horror fan: The streamer lacks when it comes to horror content. We’d suggest looking elsewhere in February. For example, there's streamers like Shudder and AMC+ that specialize in this content as an alternative.

You love anime: While there’s a selection of animation movies and TV shows to enjoy on Apple TV+ like WondLa, Netflix or Crunchyroll are ideal for streaming some of the best anime.

You prefer more variety: Apple TV+ has one of the smallest libraries compared to the biggest paid-for streaming services. We'd suggest looking at Prime Video or Hulu if you're after more content to browse.
