When is Amazon Prime Day 2024?

The dates for this year's Prime Day are July 16 – 17. The sale starts at midnight on Tuesday and runs for 48 hours through to 23:59 on Wednesday.

Expect all the deals to go live right at the start of the sale, with a handful of limited-time lightning deals popping up throughout. Given we've seen some Prime Day headphone deals be extremely popular in the past – especially the cheaper or budget-friendly ones – we'd suggest buying early if the cans you want are on sale.

What headphone deals to expect on Prime Day

Headphone deals have been dominated by Apple, Sony and Bose over the last few months, and we predict a very similar picture for Prime Day.

All of these brands offer highly-rated headphones and earbuds based on our testing so they'll be the ones to shop for in the upcoming sale. Look out for re-runs of record-low prices for the popular AirPods or premium WH-1000XM5 and maybe a few new lowest-ever prices for older generation models.

For those after cheaper or more budget-friendly options, the old favorite Sony WF-C500 should be reduced once again. There should also be some affordable options from the likes of JBL and Anker if you're less fussed about high-end audio quality and just need some headphones or earbuds to get you through the day or while exercising.

Speaking of, we'll have an eye out for some fitness-focused buds from Shokz and Bose – including the unique bone-conducting tech – should you want to give those a go for yourself.

Do you need Amazon Prime to buy Prime Day headphone deals?

An Amazon Prime membership was required to take full advantage of this year's Prime Day headphone deals, but anything left now will be available to all. While there are often listings open to everybody on Prime Day, the best deals are usually reserved for prime members only. If you're not a member, don't worry - you can still sign up for a free 30-day trial in the lead-up. That will give you access to all the offers – and you can cancel the trial at any time within 30 days.

We also saw plenty of other retailers offering competing Prime Day headphone deals last year. In the US, Best Buy and Walmart were price matching some of the record low prices we saw on big-ticket items, and in the UK, Currys was honoring price matches from Amazon as well.

Amazon Prime: 30-day free trial

Amazon Prime: 30-day free trial
If you've never signed up before you can get a 30-day free trial of Amazon Prime to get access to this year's Prime Day deals. You get the same benefits as paid members, including free delivery, and access to other services such as Prime Video, Prime Music, Prime Gaming and more. You can cancel at any time during the trial to avoid paying the regular fee, which is $14.99 / £8.99 per month.

Last year's best Amazon Prime Day headphone deals

Image

AirPods Pro 2: was $249 now $199 at Amazon
This is the joint-lowest price these buds have been since their launch, and they're excellent value here – the sound quality is fantastic, the noise cancellation is up with the best-in-class buds, and they're packed with smart features for iPhone users. We doubt you'll see a lower price over Prime Day. Here's our full AirPods Pro 2 review where we rave about them.

Image

Sony WF-1000XM4: was $279.99 now $198 at Amazon
Prime Day offers like this one are good – but they can be beaten if we wait… perhaps. The thing is, we have seen the excellent XM4 earbuds briefly drop to $178 before now, during Black Friday last year. The deal was over in a flash, (leaving some of the TechRadar team disappointed) so if you need them now, we'll leave this still-significant saving here. Sony's immersive LDAC, excellent noise cancelation, eight hours of battery life from just the earbuds, and stunning sound quality? Yes please – check out our detailed review for more info.

Image

Sony WH-CH720: was $149.99 now $98 at Amazon
This 35% off discount is the cheapest we've seen these Sony over-ears by some margin – their previous lowest-seen price on Amazon was $128 back in April. As we said in our four-star Sony WH-CH720 review, these mid-range Sony cans pack in a lot of audio finesse and smart features for the price. Unlike Sony's cheaper earbuds, they're not stealing flagship-like performance from the gods, but they're a comfortable, enjoyable listen, and the ANC does a good job of lowering outside noise.

Image

Beats Studio Buds: was $149.95 now $89.99 at Amazon
As our detailed Studio Buds review states, Apple's June 2021 Beats-branded buds are "some of the best Beats buds you can buy", and with this discount they're even more tempting. This discount equals their lowest-ever-seen price, too. Yes, the newer Beats Studio Buds Plus have landed, but these are now about half the price, while still delivering fast pairing, active noise cancelation, Find My support, and more.

Image

Sony WH-1000XM5: was $399.99 now $328 at Amazon
Quite simply the newest and best in Sony's class-leading wireless over-ear lineup. If it's the best noise cancelation you want (and you also want excellent sound and smart features), you can't do better, as our full Sony WH-1000XM5 review makes clear – especially with this much off! Have we seen them this cheap before? No – we've seen them drop to $349 before, but never this low.

Image

Sony WH-1000XM4: was £350 now £199 at Amazon
This is a record-low price for the model we rate as the best headphones in the world for most people. For this price, nothing gives you such rich sound, great noise cancellation, and smart features – all in a lightweight and comfortable package, as our Sony WH-1000XM4 review tells you. Do not miss this offer if you want quality ANC headphones.

Image

Sony WF-1000XM4: was £250 now £149 at Amazon
These have dominated our list of the best wireless earbuds for most people since their launch – and this is their lowest ever price. Nothing else matches the quality of the audio and strength of the noise cancellation for this price. You can read more about this in our full Sony WF-1000XM4 review, but the short version is that you're getting flagship quality buds for a mid-range price here.

Image

AirPods Pro 2: was £249 now £209 at Amazon
This is the lowest price that Apple's latest generation of AirPods Pro have been sold at, making it a perfect deal to scoop up on Prime Day. If you've read our AirPods Pro 2 review, it's easy to understand why we're so excited when you see all the premium features that you get such as great noise cancellation, impressive sound quality, and spatial audio with head-tracking.

Image

Sony LinkBuds S: was £180 now £125.99 at Amazon
Exceptionally small, light, comfortable earpieces with a great control app plus a slew of well-implemented on-ear control options. They're not the most dynamic or zealous listen we've ever heard, but for this money the sound is still up there with the best in show. Although we briefly (very briefly) saw them dip to one penny below £100 in October last year, at this price they're a solid bet from a trusted name in audio – particularly if you have smaller ears.

Image

Sony WF-C500: was £90 now £56.49 at Amazon
These are excellent buds for the price – lightweight, comfortable, and they sound impressive. Being from Sony, there's a great balance to the audio, and they're lively and expressive, as our full Sony WF-C500 review explains. The under £60 earbuds category has become hot recently, with big names and upstarts all competing – but you can't go wrong with Sony.

Image

JBL Tune 760NC: was £119.99 now £59.99 at Amazon
Looking for headphones with solid noise cancellation and fun sound, and good comfort for long wearing sessions? The mid-range JBL Tune headphones are ideal – especially at this more budget price. These dropped to cheaper than this over Black Friday last year – as low as £50. But if you like the price and what's on offer, we think they're a good deal right now anyway.
