UGreen USB-C 40W review

The UGreen USB-C 40W is a nifty foldable charger, ideal for those looking to charge multiple devices when on the go.

Thanks to its two USB-C ports, you can charge your phone, as well as some wireless headphones, for example – which is especially useful if you’re a keen traveler. The total output power of 40W means you can access fast-charging for two devices at once too, so you won’t have to wait an eternity to get juiced up again.

But how does the UGreen USB-C 40W compete against some of the best Android phone chargers and best iPhone chargers? Well, when I tested this plug, I found that it worked very well. With only my Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 plugged in, I had access to super-fast charging, enabling me to fully recharge the phone in 80 minutes. I also tried charging the Fiio M11S hi-res music player alongside my phone and fast-charging worked perfectly well on both devices.

It’s worth noting that this thing doesn’t come with any charging cables, so if you don’t have any USB-C to USB-C / Lightning (or any relevant alternative) wires, you’ll need to grab those separately. That could mean you’re spending a decent amount of cash overall given this charger comes in at £23.99 (about $30 / AU$45). That’s not a crazy high price by any means, but it’s still a tad more than some competitors. Not only that, but if you’re only really on the hunt for a phone charger and don’t use many devices, UGreen already offers some strong, cheaper alternatives, like the UGreen Nexode Mini 30W, for instance.

Arguably the best thing about the UGreen USB-C 40W is how compact it is. That’s partially thanks to the charger’s foldable prongs, which makes the charger able to fit in a pocket if you’re on the go. It's not only practical though – it also has decent build quality, with a nice finish on the outer white casing.

Overall, if you’re in the market for a dual-charging charging plug, the UGreen USB-C 40W is going to deliver where it matters, thanks to fast charging speeds, a compact design, and a sensible price tag.

Should I buy the UGreen USB-C 40W?

Buy it if…

You want to charge two devices at once
Whether it’s a phone and some headphones or a pair of earbuds and a smart watch, the UGreen USB-C 40W will be able to charge two of your devices quickly, simultaneously. It has two USB-C ports, meaning you’ll need a couple of USB-C to USB-C / Lightning (or other) cables already – none are included with this charger.

You’d like access to super-fast charging
When I charged my Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 using the UGreen USB-C, I got from 0% to 100% in approximately 80 minutes – that’s pretty good! If you have a phone that supports super-fast charging, this plug will deliver just that – so if you need to juice up quickly, this is a strong option.

Don't buy it if…

You want one of the cheapest chargers around
If you don’t need top charging speeds and you’re instead looking for an insanely cheap charger, you might want to pass on the UGreen USB-C 40W. Sure, for a dual-USB-C port charger of this power, it isn’t crazy expensive at £23.99, but there are plenty of totally functional USB-C chargers on the market within the £10-£15 price range.

You only need to charge one device at a time
If you’re only going to be charging your phone rather than two devices at once, this isn’t your best option. The UGreen Nexode Mini 30W, for example, will give you super-fast charging too, but it's even more compact and cheaper too. So it's worth weighing up if you’ll get good use out of the dual USB-C charging ports.

UGreen USB-C 40W: Also consider

Anker 323 Charger (33W)
If you want to charge two devices at once, but you want to use one of your USB-A to USB-C/lightning cables, this plug will be right up your street. This charger serves both a 12W USB-A and 20W USB-C port and also has foldable prongs, making it a decently powerful, portable alternate option.
