Samsung's The Wall is now much closer to European businesses than ever before
Samsung's The Wall has been providing businesses with next-generation cutting-edge displays since it was first unveiled in 2018. The modular display has wowed customers across the world since its inception, and it owes much of this adoration to the high-quality standard of manufacturing and precision engineering involved.
Greater demand has led to expanded production of The Wall in recent years, with Samsung responding to widely experienced supply chain challenges by diversifying its engineering work in various territories across Europe and the world. With a recent expansion in manufacturing of The Wall in the highly equipped facility in Slovakia, Samsung has built on its existing operations to deliver the specialized display to more customers faster than ever before. The firm has achieved this while maintaining the high production values that have contributed to making The Wall the jaw-dropper that it is.
Bringing The Wall to European doorsteps
Before 2022, production for The Wall took place exclusively in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. But European customers can now access these innovative technologies much faster thanks to measures taken to mitigate supply chain issues and speed up delivery time – all while tapping into local expertise.
In January 2022, the firm expanded production lines in Mexico to meet demands from North and Latin America, which was soon followed by production in a Slovakian facility during May of that same year. With customer demand for The Wall, as well as digital signage surging, the launch underpins Samsung’s efforts to manufacture this display in sufficient quantities for European customers.
What makes Samsung's Slovakian factory a perfect site? Simple – it's been at the heart of the firm's innovation since 2002, with valuable local expertise, and is perfectly placed to serve customers in Europe. The factory originally launched to manufacture CRT monitors before playing a key role in technologies like TVs and smartphones. Now, with its expanded production of The Wall, the facility was fully up and running within three months. But Samsung is much more than a hardware manufacturer. It supports some of the most complex LED projects globally from pre-sale, mechanical design and software through to delivery, as well as after sales support and training.
As with all of Samsung's facilities, a strong technically skilled workforce also means the factory adheres to some of the most stringent standards, including ISO 9001 and ISO 50001. The former is a standard that ensures the high quality of the end product, while the latter governs optimal energy usage. This renewed production cycle has dramatically reduced the time it takes to ship orders – as well as slashing shipping distances – meaning customers in Europe can receive their orders within two weeks.
What is The Wall and what can it offer?
At the heart of Samsung's The Wall is micro LED technology, which works by transferring micrometer-scale LEDs into LED modules, which by definition are wall tiles made up of clusters of microscopic lights. The benefit of having modular micro LED panels is that they're scalable to any size yet can offer a seamless viewing experience.
These micro LEDs are thinner than human hair, and the panel itself is highly customizable – meaning customers can personalize the shape, size, and ratio of their screens to fit any particular space or environment. Unlike technologies such as LCD, micro LED is also self-emissive, meaning every unit produces its own light and color; therefore, there is no need for backlights or filters, making the display brighter and much sharper.
The Wall includes many cutting-edge features too. These include MICRO HDR, which allows for true-to-life imagery, MICRO Motion, which converts 60Hz signals to 120Hz to remove judder and smoothen motion, and a MICRO AI processor, which optimizes every second of content for optimal picture quality. This comes alongside the enhanced installation convenience and flexible design unconstrained by size, shape, or structural limitations.
Since the launch of The Wall in 2018, Samsung has continuously improved its technology to provide more advanced screens. The firm announced the pinnacle of micro LED displays in 2022 – which is ‘The Wall (IWB)’ with 0.63 being the slimmest ever pixel pitch. ‘The Wall All-in-One (IAB)’ was also unveiled in 2022 bringing innovation to the installation. The concept reduces installation to a fraction of the time of standard LED and ensures great results. Innovation doesn't stop there, and production studios can benefit from a grand and immersive screen ideal for use in massive multi-million-dollar productions with ‘The Wall for Virtual Production (IVC)’, launched in Europe this year. Manufacturing locations for some models may vary, however, based on particular business requirements.
How The Wall is making a lasting impression in Europe
Businesses worldwide have been making the most of The Wall in a variety of industries and use cases, including sports, live events, hospitality, retail, and education, among many others. The automotive industry, too, has taken to The Wall and its capacity to be a bright, sharp display that can capture the intricacies of the real world in an incredibly precise way.
This year, Skoda Auto a.s. adopted Samsung's state-of-the-art display technology to help designers showcase their work and review 2D sketches on two 292-inch 8K screens simultaneously. With astonishing colors and a 1:1 scale, the firm could promote discussion amongst designers while saving them time and money. Samsung also provided support throughout the process, and afterward, helping with the installation and maintenance. Now, The Wall is a key part of the design process.
Meanwhile, in September, Lucid Motors installed The Wall at its design studio to better design future electric vehicles (EVs). The massive 255-inch micro LED display lets designers review their models on a 1:1 scale. Porsche also used The Wall to resurrect a classic in the form of the 911 Carrera Panamericana Special. The modular display was the center of attention at an exclusive event at the Porsche Center Santa Fe, Mexico City in March.
Samsung also partnered with ASML, a semiconducting supplier, to establish a stunning modular display in an auditorium, with incredibly complex requirements. Thankfully, The Wall was a natural fit, thanks to its modularity that made a tailor-made solution possible. This project saw three UHD Wall displays stitched together to form one gigantic screen.
Samsung's The Wall improves the viewing experience to make it more immersive and luxurious. It's a highly versatile technology that represents the perfect marriage between a supreme aesthetic and a magnificent viewing experience. Now – it has a firmer foothold in Europe, with customers also able to sample The Wall at a variety of demo sites including its flagship showroom in Frankfurt, Germany. There's no doubt that the future of The Wall is an exciting one, with Samsung set to surprise us as it continues to innovate in this arena.
