The Turbo X sounds awesome, and the battery is good enough that, as long as you charge it before you go out, you can forget about having to plug it in again till you get home. It looks pretty cool with its glowing blue buttons – and it really is very, very loud.
We disliked
The voice and motorbike sounds that the Turbo X makes when you change its settings are quite annoying, although they can be disabled. The iOS app failed to connect more often than it connected, and the vinyl mode seems pretty pointless.
There is a carry case for the speaker, which is available separately, but for the price you'd really expect it to be included in the box.
Final verdict
The Riva Turbo X is a well-made, great-sounding Bluetooth speaker that goes ridiculously loud and has a battery that lasts for ages – if used for a few hours every day it will easily last a week on a single charge.
It can charge your phone, and you can use it for hands-free calls. And, if you really want to, you can listen to vinyl through it.
Unfortunately, at £299 / $349 (about $AU470) it's extremely expensive for a portable speaker. If it was half the price, or even £100 cheaper, it would be a bargain. But it's not, at least not at the moment, and if you're looking to spend that kind of cash then there are better, and cheaper, options out there.
