Why you can trust TechRadar
Sound quality
Thankfully, Samsung's 2011 slim TVs aren't the sonic no-go zones they were in previous generations. The Samsung UE40D5520 certainly manages to deliver solid vocals and a decent degree of detail and soundstage width with relatively tame footage.
But at the same time, a pretty serious lack of bass means the speakers can become a bit harsh and unconvincing when pushed harder.
Value
The Samsung UE40D5520 40-inch TV has more features than you have any right to expect for its price. It also looks prettier than you have any right to expect for the money, and it performs better than you have any right to expect for the low cost. And if that's not the definition of a bargain TV, we don't know what is.
John has been writing about home entertainment technology for more than two decades - an especially impressive feat considering he still claims to only be 35 years old (yeah, right). In that time he’s reviewed hundreds if not thousands of TVs, projectors and speakers, and spent frankly far too long sitting by himself in a dark room.
