Amazon Prime Day Kindle Deals: FAQs

When will Amazon Prime Day 2024 start?

Amazon Prime Day 2024 will take place on July 16 – 17. The event starts at midnight on Tuesday and runs through until 23:59 on Wednesday.

Even though some early Prime Day deals are available now, the bulk of the offers will be available during those 48 hours, including a few limited-time lightning deals.

We could also see a second Prime Day in late October, which has become a commonplace addition to the retail calendar in recent years.

Will you need Amazon Prime to get these deals?

Yep, you'll need to be an active Amazon Prime member to get your hands on Prime Day's exclusive discounts. While there are usually some non-exclusive price cuts available at the retailer over the period of the event, discounts on own-brand tech like Kindles, Amazon Echo, Fire TV Sticks, and so on are almost always exclusive to Prime members.

The good news is that if you're not an existing Amazon Prime member, you can easily sign up to the retailer's 30-day free trial ahead of Prime Day. Doing so will not only get you full unlimited access to all the exclusive discounts on offer but also plenty of time to check out the other associated perks like free delivery, streaming services, and various other freebies.

If you've never signed up before you can get a 30-day free trial of Amazon Prime to get access to each year's Prime Day deals. You get the same benefits as paid members, including free delivery, and access to other services such as Prime Video, Prime Music, Prime Gaming and more. You can cancel at any time during the trial to avoid paying the regular fee, which is $14.99 / £8.99 per month.

Is Amazon Prime Day the best time for Kindle deals?

Amazon Prime Day tends to be the best time of the year to get discounts on own-brand tech. This doesn't just include Kindles, but also Echo smart speakers, Amazon Fire TV Sticks, and Ring home security cameras. All these Amazon devices should have healthy discounts so it's definitely worth shopping around on Prime Day if you're a Prime member.

If you're interested, you can see a full run-down of last year's best Prime Day Kindle deals just down below. You'll see that these deals include excellent price cuts in both the US and UK for the Paperwhite, standard Kindle, Scribe, and Oasis. Generally speaking, we're expecting similar price cuts this year - with perhaps a few new records considering that all the latest Kindle models are a little older now.

Is Kindle Unlimited worth it?

Amazon Kindle Unlimited is a fantastic service that perfectly compliments any Amazon Kindle device. You get unlimited access to a library of over one million books and magazines, plus some free audiobook narration on select titles, courtesy of Audible. It's good value, at just $7.95 / £7.99 a month, and you'll never run out of fantastic content.

That said, Prime members get access to the Prime reading service. It's like a stripped-down version of Kindle Unlimited, and has a few thousand free titles. So if you have Prime, even if you don't want to sign up to Kindle Unlimited, you'll still have plenty of books to read with your Kindle device.

Amazon Kindle (2022): was $99.99 now $64.99 at Amazon
What's an Amazon Prime Day without a sale on Amazon Kindle ereaders? This Amazon Kindle (2022) got an update last year, and this is now the cheapest price we've seen on Amazon's basic but powerful portable ebook. The latest update gave the basic Kindle the same sharp display as the best Kindle Oasis, so it's a great reading tablet at a great price.

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite: was $139.99 now $89.99 at Amazon
For most people, the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite is the best ereader to buy, since it packs the same sharp display as the best Kindle devices, with the waterproof reading that we loved in the Kindle Oasis. This is the best price we've ever seen on Amazon's best reading tablet, and you don't even need to spring for more storage if you aren't traveling for months at a time.

Kindle Oasis (32GB): was $239.99 now $164.99 at Amazon
Say you don't want an entire Oasis bundle but still like the sound of Amazon's premium Kindle, this deal on the 32GB model is well worth considering. Sure, the Kindle Oasis is a little pricier than the other models but its super-sharp 7-inch display with warm light filter, ergonomic design, and better water resistance than other models make it a perfect choice as a vacation ereader. This deal saves you 34% and brings the Oasis down to a low that's only previously been reached on Black Friday.

Amazon Kindle Scribe: was $339.99 now $254.99 at Amazon
The Kindle Scribe is more than just a Kindle  – it adds writing and journaling capabilities to a humongous ereader display. In many ways, it's the best Kindle yet, and it's pretty new, so it hasn't been on sale very often. This Prime Day deal is the best price we've seen on the Amazon Kindle Scribe, dropping it $35 from its all-time low. Even if you don't care about writing, the Kindle Scribe is worth checking out if you just want a much bigger screen to read your Kindle book library.

Kindle Oasis (32GB): was £229.99 now £179.99 at Amazon
The Kindle Oasis is Amazon's premium ereader, offering a stunning 7-inch display with a 300ppi resolution that makes it like reading on real paper. The warm light filter also improves readability in different situations, plus there's increased water resistance. This deal saves you 22% and while it has previously been £10 lower, it's still a good price for an excellent ereader.

Amazon Kindle Scribe: was £329.99 now £259.99 at Amazon
The Kindle Scribe was only launched in November 2022, so a price cut of this size is worth taking note of. Amazon's brought it down by £70 for Prime Day – a saving of 21% that takes it to a new low. The Scribe comes with a stylus and can be used for writing and journaling, as well as, of course, reading, making it the most versatile Kindle yet.
