Looking for the best broadband deals on the market? Well, Plusnet could be the perfect option. Frequently voted as one of the UK's cheapest broadband providers, Plusnet beats out a lot of its competitors for overall value and it has plenty more to offer too.

Plusnet is well established as a UK internet service provider (ISP). The company gained prominence when it was purchased by BT Broadband in 2007. Since then, Plusnet has placed itself as the affordable alternative to the likes of Sky, BT and Virgin, offering a range of affordable yet reliable internet options. In recent years, it has even started to offer ultrafast options that rival some of the quickest deals on the market.

We think that Plusnet is a great choice for lots of customers. After all, the company regularly features in our guide to the best cheap broadband only deals and is particularly well regarded for its cheap fibre broadband deals.

Plusnet's broadband deals compared

It might be tempting to go for Plusnet's cheapest internet package and save yourself a packet. After all, it is the company's least expensive and it's regularly one of the very cheapest options on the market.

However, before you commit, it's important that you realise it's the cheapest for a reason: it's also the slowest. As a result, if you live in a large and busy household, it won't be right for you. In these circumstances, it's well worth paying a few pounds more and grabbing a faster fibre plan. This is because it will stop you from experiencing lots of buffering and lag.

What extras can you get with Plusnet?

Right now, extras with Plusnet’s broadband packages are limited when compared to the likes of Sky, Virgin Media and BT, but you can get the following:

  • Plusnet Protect - antivirus that’s powered by Norton
  • Plusnet SafeGuard - its online parental controls
  • Call features - for those who can get phone bundles
  • Plusnet Perks - there are a number of partner brands that have special offers for Plusnet customers, including The Body Shop, Gousto, Audible and Rise Coffee.

What's Plusnet's customer service like?

Although its Trustpilot scores aren’t great, Plusnet has won awards for how it treats and interacts with and supports its customers. One of the positives is that it offers UK-based support over the phone. In addition to this, it has a variety of troubleshooting resources online that its customers can access for free.

When customers do praise Plusnet, it’s often down to the fact that it's easy to speak to a human and that customer service agents are friendly and helpful.

From Ofcom’s most recent broadband complaints study, Plusnet also does well. It currently has the joint second lowest number of complaints per 100,000 customers (tied with EE and behind Sky). This places the company ahead of the likes of BT, TalkTalk, Vodafone, NOW and Virgin Media.

It's also worth pointing out that Plusnet is widely praised by industry experts. For example, the company was named as the Broadband Provider of the Year, the Best Value for money Broadband Provider, the Best Provider for Customer Service and the Most Reliable Broadband Provider by Uswitch in 2024.

How long will my Plusnet broadband contract last?

Almost all of Plusnet's contracts now last for 24 months. Admittedly, this is a long time to be tied to a provider. However, long contracts are becoming the industry standard now and there's certainly something to be said for locking in a great price for a long period of time.

How reliable is Plusnet’s broadband?

As Plusnet also uses the Openreach network, you can count on it being very reliable with minimal disruption or outages. What’s more, as it's part of the main UK broadband network, any issues are often quickly resolved.

Does Plusnet do broadband and TV deals?

Not at the moment. Plusnet is exclusively a broadband and telephone zone. If you're keen to bundle your TV package in with your internet connection, then direct your attention to our best broadband and TV deals guide and use the comparison chart to narrow down your ideal all-round package.

Do I get a landline from Plusnet?

As of April 2024, only the company's Unlimited Broadband and Unlimited Fibre packages still include line rental.

This is because Plusnet is now beginning to specialise in broadband-only packages that come without a landline. The company says that 'with the nationwide roll-out of ultrafast Full Fibre, older services like landlines will soon be phased out. We’re getting ahead and going digital with straightforward broadband-only packages.'

However, the company is keen to stress that if you're reliant on a home phone service, then you can still get one. Contact them on 0800 432 0200 and their team will provide you with advice about digital phone options.
