Disney Plus price: how much does each plan cost

Disney Plus' price has changed a lot since the service first launched in 2019. Nowadays, there are two different price points for subscribing to the service that more or less come down to whether you want ads or an ad-free experience, with the latter being more expensive.

An ad-supported plan was first launched in the US in 2022, which was later brought to the the UK, where there's a third Disney Plus plan available that offers a more middle of the ground offering between standard and premium. Up until March 2024, those in Australia only had one Disney Plus plan available to them, but since then a premium tier has also rolled out.

The past year or so has seen plenty of fluctuations where the Disney Plus price is concerned as its cheaper ad-supported plan arrived around the world. But despite another US price hike in October 2024, the streaming giant is hoping that its ad-supported plan, Disney Plus password sharing crackdown and Disney Plus bundles will bring in more subscribers. That plan seems to be working too, with around 30% of the streamer's global fanbase currently owning an ads-supported account in September 2024.

Our team of writers are constantly on the look out for any upcoming changes to the Disney Plus price, so be sure to check back on this page to keep up to date with all the latest. If you've already got an account, then make sure to look at our picks of the best Disney Plus movies and Disney Plus shows to make the most out of your subscription.

The most recent Disney Plus price rise came on October 17, 2024, in the US, when the price of the service was raised for the second time in 12 months, requiring members to fork out an extra $1-2 in the US.

The ad-supported plan rose from $7.99 a month to $9.99 a month. To forego ads, you'll now be paying $15.99 a month rather than the previous rate of $13.99 a month. Similar price increases were rolled out to Hulu and ESPN Plus at the time.

A similar jump in the Disney Plus price occurred on October 17, 2024, in the UK, where the cost of the Standard (without ads) plan rose from £7.99 to £8.99 per month and the Premium plan went from £10.99 to £12.99. The Standard (with ads) plan remained unchanged.

A price increase also came to Disney Plus in Australia in March 2024 in the way of a new more expensive tier. This meant that if subscribers wanted to continue streaming in 4K and Dolby Atmos, they had to spend AU$17.99 per month (the new Standard plan remained the same price of AU$13.99).

Disney Plus also introduced a global password sharing crackdown in September 2024, which meant that anyone outside an account holder's household are required to be added as an 'Extra Member' to your subscription or sign up for a new account. This costs and extra $6.99 a month with ads and $9.99 without ads.

As for Disney Plus bundles, these plans also saw an increase in costs off the back of the price hikes. Here's the list of how much each bundle package costs in the US:

  • Disney Bundle Duo Basic (Hulu with ads) moved from $9.99 to $10.99
  • Disney Bundle Duo Premium (Hulu no ads) still costs $19.99
  • Disney Bundle Trio Basic (Hulu and ESPN with ads) moved from $14.99 to $16.99
  • Disney Bundle Trio Premium (Hulu no ads and ESPN with ads) moved from $24.99 to $26.99
  • Disney Plus, Hulu, Max bundle (with ads) still costs $16.99
  • Disney Plus, Hulu, Max bundle (no ads) still costs $29.99

Following the wider rollout of an ad-supported plan on Disney Plus, there are now three tiers to choose from: Standard With Ads, Standard, and Premium.

The Standard plan costs the same as the previous rates, though you'll only get 4K streams if you upgrade to Premium. Currently, in Australia and New Zealand, you still only have the option of one ad-free plan.

How does the Disney Plus price compare to Netflix?

With a comparatively slender library, but packed full of commercially lucrative franchises and content from major film studios, Disney Plus looks poised to rival Netflix as the world’s most popular streaming service.

However, Netflix has nearly two times the number of subscribers and almost five times as much content with the likes of Arcane, Wednesday, and The Night Agent being huge hits for the streamer.

A Netflix Basic plan will cost $6.99 a month, which includes two simultaneous stream of any of the best Netflix movies and best Netflix shows in HD resolution. A Standard subscription costs $15.49 and includes two simultaneous streams and HD resolution, while a four-screen Ultra HD Premium plan will set you back $22.99.

What does this mean? In the price wars at least, Netflix comes out on top with its mightily affordable $6.99 a month for a with-ads plan. As for the no-ads subscription, Netflix is only slightly cheaper at $15.49 compared to Disney Plus' $15.99.

How does Disney Plus price compare to Prime Video?

Online behemoth Amazon’s online video service has gone on to produce many big original hits such as The Rings of Power, The Boys and Fallout. It may not have produced quite as many streaming successes as Netflix, but it can boast a much deeper library than its rival, with four times as many movies and access to top-notch classic TV. In November alone, Prime Video added over 170 new movies to its content catalog and there's more free TV content coming as its partnered with PBS, following its recent decision to close the free streaming service Amazon Freevee.

A single Amazon Prime membership is $14.99 per month or $139 per year if you choose to pay annually, which allows you to stream content to two devices at once. While this might seem expensive compared with the Disney Plus price, it also includes Amazon Prime membership, giving you access to same-day or one-day shipping on Amazon.com purchases, plus photo storage and access to exclusive deals at times like on Amazon Prime Day. It's a lot more than a streaming service.

How does Disney Plus price compare to Max?

Max is the tantalizing on-demand offering from WarnerMedia. It hosts a mouth-watering agglomeration of shows including The Penguin, The Last of Us and The White Lotus. While Disney Plus supports Team Marvel, HBO Max is staunchly Team DC with the likes of The Peacemaker.

Recently rebranded to just 'Max' as the conclusion to its merger with Discovery Plus, Max now also is home to a ton of unscripted reality shows. With it, three new Max price tiers.

Starting at $9.99 a month for its With Ads plan, its Ad-Free plan costs $16.99 a month. Want 4K streams though and you'll have to stretch to the new Ultimate Ad-Free plan, which costs $20.99 a month. This is unlike Disney Plus, where 4K streams are available on all tiers. However, with Max's impending crackdown on password sharing, prices will rise too if you want to share your account.

To watch the best Max movies and TV shows, they can be viewed on - among other devices: apps on iOS and Android, Apple and Android TVs, PCs and Macs via the HBO Max website, as well as consoles such as Xbox One and PlayStation 4. And finally, you can get HBO Max on Roku and on Fire Stick, too.

How does Disney Plus price compare to Apple TV Plus?

Apple TV Plus is a sci-fi show utopia, with the likes of Severance, Dark Matter, and Silo all becoming huge successes for the streamer. It focuses on quality rather than quantity, which is why it was crowned TechRadar's Streaming Service of the Year. Not only is it the home of sci-fi, but it also houses stellar shows like Ted Lasso, Bad Monkey, Shrinking, and Slow Horses.

Following a price hike from its budget $6.99 rate, Apple TV Plus now costs $9.99 a month ($99.99 for an annual plan), which still manages to undercut most of its competitors with no ads and 4K streams as the standard. It's just not as cheap as Uncle Walt's budget-friendly ad-supported plan anymore.

Disney Plus offers a wealth of highly sought-after entertainment. It has a total of around 1,200 films and TV shows, while Apple TV Plus has only 90-odd. The difference may seem stark. But Apple TV Plus does produce largely brand-new content, and is gradually amassing a diverse and accomplished library of titles, which is why we're canceling Prime Video for Apple TV Plus this month.

Where Disney Plus has brand appeal, the best Apple TV Plus shows feature A-list celebrities and some thrillingly original programming. And, if it doesn’t yet have enough content to satisfy your VOD appetite, it at least makes a thrilling side dish.

How does Disney Plus price compare to Hulu?

Despite being a majority Disney-owned service, Hulu is, in some ways, a competitor to Disney Plus.

Boasting popular Hulu Originals like The Bear, Only Murders in the Building, and American Horror Stories, the on-demand service can also be bolstered by the Hulu with Live TV package, which adds over 95 live TV channels, including live sports broadcasts. Hulu has three main pricing tiers; a basic $7.99-a-month ad-supported option, a $17.99 ad-free monthly tier, and the aforementioned Live TV package which starts at $76.99.

The latter option may seem costly, but you get heaps for that price, including throwing in the entire Disney Plus bundle at no additional cost. That includes Disney Plus (obviously), Hulu's on-demand library of best Hulu movies and best Hulu shows, and ESPN Plus.

Of course, you can also get the bundle from $10.99 a month without the live channels.

Disney Plus has continued to provide fantastic value, undercutting the price of Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Max. But one thing it’s lacking is live access to its own TV channels, like Freeform or Disney Junior. So, if you’re looking primarily for an online cable replacement, you’d be wise to check out the following OTT providers. Each offers a free trial of varying lengths to new subscribers.

For $72.99 a month, YouTube TV has a single plan that brings you 85 channels or more depending on your location, across news, sports, entertainment, and children’s TV. Plus, it has the inimitable Unlimited Cloud DVR feature. But even more comprehensive is FuboTV. The $74.99 Pro plan provides in excess of 154 channels, a third of which are sports-related. And you can pay to add on extras like Showtime ($10.99 a month) or International Sports Plus if you want more.

But if those monthly fees hit you hard in the bank balance, then Sling TV is a great low-cost alternative. First, pick a base package depending on your tele-visual preferences. Sling Blue offers over 40 channels, largely news and entertainment networks like A&E, CNN, FX and Comedy Central, while Sling Orange has fewer channels, but incudes the Disney-owned Freeform, ESPN networks, and the Disney Channel. Both are from $40 a month, although for an extra charge you can add individual channels or themed add-on packs.

Which countries can I sign up to Disney Plus?

Initially you could sign up to Disney Plus in the US, Canada, and the Netherlands when it launched in November 2019. It then expanded into Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and Europe before arriving in Japan and Latin America. It's now available in more than 106 countries.

Can you get Disney Plus for free?

The introductory 7-day free trial came to an end a while ago with no countries currently benefiting from one. But it may well return as streaming services across the board see a decline in new sign-ups.

If you're in the market for a new phone contract, however, there may still be a way to try for free. Or you can look at other third-party websites to check if they've got a deal going. For more information, check out our Disney Plus free trial guide.

Alternatively, shift the cost onto a loved one and ask for a Disney Plus gift card for your birthday, Christmas, or another special occasion.
